I just saw a girl on the train I was on. She took out a book by Sally Rooney, then immediately took out her phone to take a photo of herself „reading“ and then she spent 30 minutes doing stuff on her phone until she got off while not having read a single page. Why are people like this?

yes it's all performance life's a stage each one wears ten thousands masks on endless rotations and with enough applause one can almost convince oneself that the mask if the real face ! next you will put two and two together and realise that actors are beloved because they are best at this phony burlesque. the us chose an entertainer for their president for a reason, and that's honesty.

I saw a girl on the train today and she had ziploc bags around her shoes. It had been raining, but her soles were already filthy so I don't really know why she bothered with the ziploc bags? Maybe she didn't want to get her socks wet or something. I only noticed because I had left my book at work and therefore had nothing specific to focus on so my attention wandered around the carriage aimlessly until I noticed the ziploc bags around her shoes

Interesting. On a train ride last Monday, I watched a girl open the fold-down table for her seat, set a book down on it, and just leave it there until she got up and left. The book was called "We Should All Be Feminists."
Was this the female equivalent of a fedora?

Once, at McDonald's, I saw a high school gendie boy take out a bunch of art supplies, markers and a sketchbook, set them on the table, use his phone for thirty minutes, pack up, and leave.

who cares nigger? this is meant to set up some commentary about reading being a performance but your too dumb to do it yourself so you just post the story hoping someone else will say something interesting for you. you’re the real loser for posting this.

I like this. We don’t get a confirmation of what his face really is: a lesser meme would just show him raging from behind the masks. But it’s completely covered, and even if it wasn’t, a person’s face is but the greatest mask, of which we have the most control over.

>OP proceeds to lambast her for not actually being /lit/
>yet OP immediately pulled out his phone and made a 4chan post instead of reading a book on the train
Shame.

>I just saw a thread where OP was criticizing a girl on a train
>she falsified her interest in literature, using the book as a prop for her persona rather than the tool it was
>I found OP's need to criticize the girl ironic, as he himself was not participating in the activity he felt she was waving around performatively
>yet I am not reading or writing as we speak, for I spend all day refreshing /lit/ to argue about books I will not read and authors I will not understand
Shame.

Makes sense. Feminists are desperate for attention from men.

These threads always make me laugh. There's a visceral reaction that people get when you simply point out NPC behaviour.

Is it an insecurity in their own authenticity? Is it fear of the truth? Is it mistakenly assuming OP is somehow boaating about himself?
Very strange, there's always people that refuse to accept what they can witness everyday.

I mean, it's possible that OP fabricated it, but it's also possible he didn't. Benefit of the doubt is given because of many examples that align with that kind of behaviour that you can find all over the internet and I have personally experienced.
Just yesterday I went on a group nature walk that included three girls who were taking selfies and walking with their heads in their phones etc majority of the time. Actually observe people for once, it doesn't mean you hate them.

It's called "performative fashion". Books are fashion these days. Not reading them - only doing selfies of pretending to read them.

I shit you not, there are zoomers out there who just open books in public just to look smart. They don't read them, they pretend to read them. This is normal these days. This is what Guy Debord talked about in his "The Society of the Spectacle".
