How do I get better at organizing and presenting my thoughts in a more cohesive and easily transmittable manner? I feel like I need to go back to basics when it comes to writing and orating ideas. Not that I don't talk with people regularly or write but I suspect years of parasocial media and imageboard use has gimped my communications skills. Anyone know that feel?

>more cohesive and easily transmittable manner

If your goal is to get your point across to non-boomer generations, you must avoid these.

Read book aloud. Avoid internet for pleasure. Observe.

Same way you learn in school, write paragraphs following the basic paragraph structure, write essays following the basic 3 paragraph essay structure. And start reading and analyzing essays in this same way, this paragraph is the introduction, how each sentence in that paragraph works towards the paragraphs purpose, and what the sentence adds to the meaning of the paragraph.

Most well written paragraphs follow the basic form, which is pretty much the same as the 3 paragraph essay and most essays also follow this form, they just add in some layers between the paragraph and the essay which also tend to follow this basic form of introduction, exposition, conclusion.

Writing derives from speaking. If you get good at speaking, you'll be good at writing.

Respect the language you choose to communicate in. Spelling, grammar, formatting. Writing is a craft and it requires practice. Every sentence and paragraph is a little work and it has quality and substance to it.

Put love and care into how you write and speak. Words are very powerful, they can save a life or end a life. Gain an appreciation for language itself and you will enjoy expressing yourself with words.

As Kafka said: Don't bend it. Don't water it down. Express yourself from the depths of your soul and you will move people.

Don't hold back. One day you will die and all the things you were afraid to say will be lost forever.

Consider as well the literal shapes of words. A letter, a line, a sentence, a paragraph. These are pictures you are drawing.

Here is a picture.

I have drawn with words.

Each line is longer than the last.

And now it is getting shorter.

Like a little hill of words.

That is retarded. Writing loses most all of the verbal and visual cues we get from speaking. If you want to be good at writing you need to learn how to work around this loss and use the tools of writing.

On oration:

Speak from your chest. Speak with confidence, and ideally speak slowly. Put sincere passion into what you say and plan to say something meaningful and moving.

Three times is the perfect amount of times to recite a speech. It is not too much or too little. Resist the temptation to drone on and on about various things, and finish strong with a statement that leaves people in reflection.

Always be sincere and authentic. There are meaningful things to say, and the most meaningful and powerful thing you can speak is the truth.
