Clash of Civilizations
So this book is a classic in its genre, but does it feel outdated in 2025? And was it right in any of its predictions?Discuss

well, for starters, Huntington correctly predicted the current special military operation in the Ukraine

It’s very much a product of its time including some 80s yellow peril as he moans about the asians becoming one of the great powers because everyone has a Walkman basically.

Bullshit. It’s always cherrypicking from people defending books like this. Wrong about 80% and the rest isn’t so much “predicted” as accidentally correct for reasons entirely different than what the author suggested.

It’s like watching people talk about how Alex Jones was “right” about this or that as if they’re not burying 99.99% absolute horseshit out of his mouth daily for 30 years to find that gem they can look at askew and call predicted.

If any of these foreign policy cunts could actually predict anything they’d be rich.

So it's basically just another geopolitical book, built on arbitrary axioms

>yellow peril
I dunno, some of this has merit depending on how you look at it.

It’s to a large degree come true.

No, he did not predict mass migration to the West and predicted some confrontation with the Islamic world which never happened.

I think this map showing how Huntington divided up the world into "civilizations" shows how much of a gross oversimplification of geopolitics this really is.

Sure if you do the usual bullshit of ignoring what he says about Japan specifically (see: >>24708777) which instead of a powerhouse owning the US through stereo supremacy fell apart in the 90s and basically never recovered, and instead pretend he was talking about CHOYNA and was some super genius for “predicting” they would become more important… but what the fuck do people play these games for?
You can see these exact patterns in the looney tunes trying to adapt Nostradamus and the apocalyptic passages of the Bible. Amazingly it talks about the exact present current moment for 2000 years continuously.

It’s a basic human instinct and pattern seeking and it’s actually less tragic when people spend thousands of manhours paving over plot holes in their sloppa entertainment, than when people do it with political prognosticators.

There’s rarely any downside to spewing endless false predictions - the same people who lied to your face about WMDs in Iraq are still touted as “experts”. They have lied about much more since and are never accountable. Just as a recent funny one observe the “keys to the white house” fag absolutely coping about being wrong. Meanwhile his fans went “but if you tweak the interpretation it proved Trump would have won so it’s actually right and useful”. They can keep using those “keys” and pretending they predict the right results forever, post fact. You just had to squint and know the results and the truth was there all along!

What if I don't like the Chinese for racial reasons?
