Weak, weak. The aim should be to share love for each other. This is why you all remain alone. You think it's about money or looks or whatever. But really it's because you are not really looking for love in any true sense. You're only looking for affirmation, an indication of that you aren't scum. Woman remains an object, a prize to be won.

For love to find you, you must learn to love.

>It took a while

This is like the whole thing of novels meeting internet culture. People don't run out and buy it and crack it open on release unless it's some sort of fantasy slop. There's an established culture of fiction, and it's a slow mover. That's how come we saw a Pynchon surge in the 2000s. People will be checking out Shadow Ticket next year, in five years' time, and still considering it a new release. I'll read it once I'm done with Gibbon

I find fascinating how so many things that used to signal coolness are becoming cringe. And not in the usual way in which things get lamer as they age because they are being replaced by more intense and piercing iterations of the same concept. If anything an edgier more modern take on Pynchon's style would be even cringier, as it was the case with OBAA. But at the same time I don't even know what's cool anymore.

Wasnt displayed at mine either. I had to ask at the info desk, the girl scoffed walked to the front tables (as if Im retarded and didn’t look there) and said “huh, it should be here” then we both searched the new release shelves and found it off to the side.

What a way to treat a new Pynchon release.

If you think his work is good, why would it ever matter what the consensus is? We've always been in the minority and there is a certain pleasure in that. Sure, I wish more people read him. They're missing out. But if they did, I would probably get annoyed at eventual misreadings of his works, the way it happened to McCarthy after the Blood Meridian thing. I would care more if Pynchon were a younger writer and the success of this work increased his future chances. But sadly I think he is no spring chicken.

Nah they'd wink and nudge each other and tap their noses conspiratiorially while hinting at "The Japanese Insurance Adjuster" and "Pandemonium of the Sun", thinking themselves oh so clever to ken that such books were ever named and with even greater smugness think themselves smarter than the rest for knowing the first is Vineland and the second Mason & Dixon
They are, each of them, watching pro wrestling and cheering ironically while thinking everyone else in the group is too stupid to realise that wrestling is fake

I hate how this site is the only place where you can express any form of skepticism about the gross, overgrown teratomas that are modern western cities. Just thinking about their shapeless, mongrelized brown mass makes my stomach churn. No wonder Lovecraft made an entire career out of his elemental sense of disgust towards them.

>>24790326
Even bougie people stopped caring about being seen as well-read and hip with their literary tastes sometime in the last decade. Like that era where Updike dropping a new Rabbit each decade or any other major established author releasing something big and ambitious was seen as a huge blockbuster event is gone and never coming back in our lifetime.

I don't know you. But the most common trait shared by young men that end up lonely is entitlement. Expecting things to fall in to your lap because of meeting x, y and z prerequisites. If you want friends, pursue social interaction. If you are afraid of social interaction, work on it. As for women, don't treat them as prizes. Not only will it make your interest in them shallow, but it will most likely skew your aims towards those that are out of your league and discount those that are on your level.

This is a massive cope. Coolness has been, perhaps, the most important factor shaping the modern world after technology. The establishment of the past 50 years is falling apart in front of our eyes because no matter how hard they go on the propaganda machine it has become incapable of not being lame. A few decades ago all the articles and reviews coming from prestigious journals calling shilling a Pynchon book as prescient would have had a genuine cultural impact. Not huge, of course, but a grain of sand adding its weight to the total. At the very least, engaging in that public discussion would have signaled been cultured in a cool way. Now it's just cringe. Now it makes you a theorycel redditor. The zeitgeist has completely changed. To be clear, I'm not criticizing the book itself though. I'm just taking notice on how the public discourse has changed.

Rick and Morty is much more millennial-core than zoomer-core, but also and as much as I dislike Rick & Morty, its humor is still a lot more fresher than Pynchons. Pynchon's humor is pure and unfiltered silent generation humor. It's the exact same sense of humor as SNL's early seasons. I'm sure it was somewhat disruptive for the time, but most of it has aged like milk, as humor usually does.
