Well, if my extensive experience with women tells me anything, it's that there would have been a very long run up to that event. She would've carped on about his friend Rimbaud for weeks possibly months or years, and if he asked - ''what, you don't like Rimbraud?'' she'd deny it and say that she doesn't mind him. She'd find small, subtle ways of expressing her disapproval like sighing heavily whenever his name was mentioned. And it wouldn't just be Rimbaud. He'd just be a symbol of her disapproval probably of the bookworld he inhabited generally. ''Oh, you bought another book? We could've used that money for a night out somewhere... It's been so long since I've gone anywhere... Ah, but you enjoy your book...'' It'd all be passive aggressive digs. So eventually the man blew his top and he shoved her to the floor. It's pointless arguing who's in the wrong or the right with a woman. The only thing to do with them is the exact thing that this man did.
