>Because white people enslaved and then brutalized black people for about 400 years give or take, then some
e have to at least be historically accurate. Everyone acts as if white "slavers" sailed to africa, and hunted and captured negroes to bring them back to be slaves. Its simply not true.
in Africa, one tribe of negroes would capture the enemy, and sell them ito slavery. This is blacks enslaving and selling other blacks. Without this? We would not have the first negroe slave in america. Next up, "whites" did not own "blacks". Anyone who had the cash? Could and did purchase slaves. It was as normal as buying farm equipment today. And yes, there were *many* cases of b-l-a-c-k people with money, who bought and owned other blacks, as slaves. It was not a white-back thing, it was a rich-poor thing.
FInally, we come to the image of cruel whites, whipping and branding black slaves. While it did happen, it was by far the exception rather than the norm. Why? Simple math. Go to any working farm, even a relatively small one. You will see some equipment around. Go look what it costs, new. Even used, its ridiculous. No sane farmer takes a SLEDGEHAMMER to his ridiculously expensive machinery. The Muslims (Barbary coast pirates) were enslaving so many WHITES, that we had to fight a small war to get them to tone it down a few notches. Its fairly recent in human history, that we view slavery as morally wrong. Since the beginning of time, "slavery" was about synonymous to what we today call "the very poor". Once freed? Most blacks didn't even want to *leave* their white owners. They had a job they couldn;t get fired from, they had a little house, a wife and kids. The white owners would generally try to teach the young black kids to read with their own white children, because they were so much more valuable when literate. This was a time, when "educated" upper crust whites? performed like second grade reading and writing and arithmetic. The shitty little dirty cabin you see the poor black negroes in? That's the same conditions any poor free white family lived in. The labor those slaves performed? Was the *same* labor anyone did on their own land if they couldn't afford to hire/own workers. Did you know there were white slaves too? Most people didn't know that. Also, the majority of slave owners would allow a black to purchase his own self (freedom). The slave is worth X dollars. Give me X dollars, plus a little more? I'll go buy a younger one of you, and come and visit if you live nearby. Go adjust the cost of a good healthy strong mandingo to today's money? And tell me you wouldn't take good care of that thing you paid so much money for. In 1860, average auction price was 800 to 1500 USD. that's 62 *thousand* in today's money. Would you buy a brand new sports car, and take a hammer to it? No. You'd shine it up all pretty, and give it the best oil, gas, etc.
