it's not such a terrible thing if you identify almost exclusively with anti-villains, is it?

I do prefer it when the villain isn't just a black-and-white evil guy like Sauron or Mufasa. Someone you can empathize with and makes you question who's side you are on. Walter White is a good example, sure. Joker (2019) too. In her other video she showed Thanos as an example of a lazy cut-and-dry villain but I think more people sympathized with Thanos than she realizes.

What's the distinction between anti-heros and anti-villians?
Anonymous No.24854965 [Report]

Her point isn't that stories should have black-and-white morality, it's that every story wants to give the villain an excuse. "He is only a serial killer because his dad beat him, he's a victim too", that kind of stuff.

An antihero is still a hero but with villainous traits.
And antivillain is still a villain but with some heroic traits.

I cant remember if it was this video which I somewhat agree with but she has a very classical view on evil as privation or absence of good, which isnt bad in itself but there are a few issues with it, although not the worst moral framework imo

But what is the fundamental distinction between hero and villian, as in when does it 'tip' over to either side? Because it sounds like a 'check' box
Anonymous No.24854981 [Report] >>24855036
What is an antihero, anyway? Most classic(al), stereotypical heroes were great, exaggerated men defined by both their strengths and faults. I don't think moral purity was ever inherent in heroism. Is anti-heroism a reaction against some historical literary trend of Good Heroes that I'm ignorant of?

Yeah 'cause she made the mistake of thinking people couldn't possibly be that retarded.

Basically imagine Lord Byron except you fall on the "I want to punch him in the mouth he's such a fucking dick" side of the coin rather than the "I want him to fuck my sister he's so cool" side of the coin, but at the same time you have to begrudgingly concede that he's objectively a good guy trying to do something good as best he can.

That's the classical core of an anti-hero of course, these days, it's just "A hero is who kinda edgy or dark and does a few things I personally don't like."

Thanos's plan was genuinely retarded. Culling 50% of the population would repopulate very quickly. He bought the universe a couple decades at minimum

Her stupid little sips are growing on me
Anonymous No.24855204 [Report]
Her idea that the anti-hero is more popular today than it was before because we're in social decay and because the heroes of the past were aligned both with "objective morality" and social standards is extremely dumb and shows historical illiteracy. All her examples of modern anti-heroes are mild as fuck, with guys that nobody call anti-heroes like John Wick and the guy from Taken. Her only real example was the Punisher and that's basically the SpongeBob from anti-heroes. There are way better examples out there such as Guts from Berserk, but she has shown that she is a prude and unable to read anything really hardcore outside of the mainstream. The worse part was when she came up and say today's anti-heroes are disgusting people and her example was the guy from the anime City Hunter, which is a 100% a good guy but apparently since he has a sexual drive and sometimes watches evil women panties he's evil. Wow.

The problem with Thanos is that his plan was absolutely fucking retarded and would never have worked. Assuming his snap was evenly distributed and didn't completely depopulate some planets while leaving others grossly overpopulated, what's removing half of everyone supposed to even do? That sets humanity back to the 1980s in population, but this time the infrastructure to support twice as many people is already in place so it maybe buys 10 or 15 years until everything goes back to the way it was.

A much better example of a good villain is Arcane, where it turns out that the scary dude with the scar wasn't actually evil, just a pragmatist, and the actual evil villain of the story was the pink haired girlboss whose selfishness and refusal to sit down and think about anything for 10 seconds ends up ruining everything for everyone for all time.
