Do you like miniaturized (under 18m) mobile suits?

Yes? What was the problem. It makes sense that the reactor output and thrusters would be more efficient over time and you could make a smaller suit.

Why Bandai doesn't do more miniaturized mobile suits on the new series? They increased the price of the Gunpla nowadays

weird upper bound
most miniatures aren't even 18 inches let alone 18 meters

They realized they don't need to make smaller mobile suits, they can just charge you more for the regular size

I feel like the Crossbone would fit in the AC timeline if it were scaled to the height of that timelines MS

They do a nice job in F91 and Victory showing the gap in tech between early and late UC. Though I think they end up better utilized in Wing were you see them fight along conventional weapons like infantry, tanks, and helicopters a lot more often.

It's harder to make model kits for miniature mobile suits compared to standard and large mobile suits.

I like some but a strong part of me feels that making a smaller giant robot is antithetical to the genre. Its a personal hang up I dont think I will ever be able to get over

1a. It's up to the individual director and mechanical designer how large they want their mobile suits, not Bandai.

1b. The miniaturized mobile suits thing was largely a Tomino concept for Late UC, but I'm not convinced that there wasn't also a Bandai ruse involved. Do you really think that it's a coincidence that 1/100 Late UC mobile suits are the same size as 1/144 Early UC mobile suits, right as the bubble burst in Japan?

2. Bandai tend to charge for plastic by size, the larger the kit the more expensive it is, despite the fact that this is plastic, which is the cheapest manufacturing material on the planet.

3. Up until the last fifteen years or so, it was nigh-impossible to actually build transforming Late UC mobile suits even at the 1/100 scale, and to date every single one of them is a hand grenade that's stupidly fragile. Even the modern 1/144 Late UC suits have to cheat the proportions and sizes to be feasibly manufactured for HG kits.

Another interesting factoid though: The Gundams in G and Wing are also very short, being only barely 1 meter taller than the Victory line. However, they're much simpler in design, especially transformation, which made it a lot easier to design kits for them.

The height reduction is fine but the weight reduction is really funny

Except Bandai switched to 1/100 as the standard scale for F91 kits, rather than 1/144. In the end, 1/100 F91 kits ended up around the same size as 1/144 Z/ZZ kits, on top of being more 'complex' products (polycaps, clear plastic parts, multi-colour injection, etc.). The whole idea that it was just a cost-saving thing doesn't really track with the models they actually ended up releasing. Hell, if there was a model line in the early '90s that Bandai cheaped the fuck out on, it was the 1/144 0083 kits

It's simply a fact that Tomino asked for it with F91's setting. It was probably just part of his vision for moving on from Gundam. F91 also has that weird moment where everyone acts like the Gundam is some nigh-forgotten name from ancient times. Last used many generations ago, 30 years.

The Crossbone suits are better than anything from the OYW. The Denan Zon is a little goofy, but the Gei and the Berga types are Okawara's masterpieces.
