Yeah almost 100% of the positive reception is coming from the feelings of having Lalah having good ending and all these other characters having a different fate from the original TV series. It's completely bizzare that most people who enjoyed GQX doesn't care about the actual story or the pacing or that original GQX cast who became side characters in their own show.

Also, consider this- with him as a mechanic, an incident with him accidentally getting to pilot a Gundam (just not the Gundam) would still not be out of the question in GQ, it'd just go more like that one English Electric Lightning incident where he does a circle around the base and gets back down rather than becomes the most important man of the war.
