Howdy, partner!
What you see here began as a series of comedy-centric stories with the concept of an alicorn-ascended Princess Applejack trying to change a mismanaged Equestria for the better by humorously interacting with the other, quite lazy, princesses. Plus late night pink antics.
Not to mention a whole bunch of Changelings with nothing better to do but cause mischief.
The whole thing was set in motion by this gem:

And don't even get me started on Cadence, who can't even manage a basic meeting with the Equestrian Games representative. Fucking annoying. Go do actual princess stuff, because apparently everyone else got the pamphlets mixed up or something and thinks "Princess" means "Beat cop."

Yet, here he was after it all. Sitting behind a desk, filling out paperwork, forms and registries and requests filed away one after the other as if none of it had happened. As if those sights he had seen from behind another's eyes were but a dream, and he had awoken to find all as it should be. It was as if there had been no grand battle atop the stars, only another day to be lived as quaint as it may seem. A part of him wondered how he would do it, how he would continue on, how he would reconcile all he'd seen within another who wore his face and spoke with his voice. He knew things about the leaders of another world most would kill to find out. Loves, weaknesses, even favors, all through someone else's memories, none his own. Yet he could still recall them as vividly as if he'd lived them, if only in a dream. How could he wake, find himself in those crystal halls, and continue on without the weight of it all crushing him in madness.
The answer came with a slamming of the door.

A tiny body put her bookbag to the side and flew to him as surely as a bullet may fly, with the aim of an experienced marksmare to boot. He returned the offered hug with all the love his remaining uncracked ribs could supply, and made sure to give an extra squeeze before he set her on the desktop.

There she was, the proof of it all. The one thing those eyes had never seen. Those memories that stallion had never known. The path his world took so divergent he could not even conceive of it. How could that stallion, broken and hurt as he was, ever dream of a day he would adopt a changeling for no other reason than he could feel her need for love. How could he imagine taking in one from a species who had hurt him so, and raising her as lovingly as he would any child.

Any chance the POshadows thing is dropping soon?
>>42246935I can probably have AJ and the girls moving out and solving what's causing the shadow/nightmare situation in Canterlot by the time we hit 460 or so, then dropping the sequel bait cliffhanger afterwards before we use the next thread for the epilogue and goodbyes. There's just some stories I need to get around to first, which should hopefully be done within a week. That might not leave a lot of room, so I don't know if anyone might feel like they want an extension thread to write something about what happens in the immediate aftermath of the final fight or to tie up anything before the epilogue and just have the epilogue thread afterwards. Basically, two more threads to get everything you want to write out before the lights go off.
Worst case scenario, this thread will end on the girls moving to find the actual nightmare source, then the fight and cliffhanger will just get pushed to early next thread, whether we decide it's the epilogue/last thread or one last extension thread before the epilogue thread.
But things are more or less on track to ending, probably next Saturday depending on posting speed.

Normally, the rising of the sun signaled a time of rest for the Princess of Dreams. As the citizens of Equestria stirred from their slumber, ready to enjoy a brand new day, the Princess would enjoy some sleep and then go about some afternoon business before it was time to raise the moon and walk the Dreamscape once again.
That was how things went. That was the norm.
But this situation before her - these tears along the fabric of the Dreamscape and the shadows leaking through them - was anything but.

And not just the fact that their existence seemed to be stirred by external forces. They were born from the fears of their dreamers, and yet there was an unnatural consistency to them.

Within reality, she could feel the approach of her subordinate.
"We've secured the 'dreamers' and their nightmares. And, if you want it, I've also brought you breakfast."

It took a few seconds, but the Captain soon manifested within the Dreamscape. After a bow toward her Princess, her gaze settled on a group of three tears before them, blackened by nightmares attempting to seep through - attached to the aforementioned 'dreamers'.

"At night. Or rather during sleep."
>Yet, of these captured creatures, they all grow more frantic during the day and the tears pulse with a greater energy. This in spite of how oddly subdued they were during the night. What say you to that?
"Well, this situation is abnormal. If someone is purposefully causing this, then the lack of activity could be due to them resting during the night, or... perhaps they seek to avoid drawing your attention as much as possible? So, they choose now in hopes that you would be resting yourself."
>Tis' a likely theory, as the 'pull' of these tears seems to grow stronger as well. Were We to focus on them, catch a particularly strong pulse, We may even be able to find the cause of this... Unfortunately, this means we cannot banish the nightmares just yet.
"Don't worry, Princess Luna. We will keep watch over the dreamers and keep these 'shadows' in check. Do what you must."
The Princess sighed, one of relief and regret at what suffering she may have to allow.

But she see outlines, she could see etchings of 'light' creating form within the darkness.
She could see a forest... A stage? A building?
