Why isn't chkdsk at the top? And why is badblocks so low? It's a mostly obsolete tool that works at a pretty high level (I still use it to thoroughly test a new HDD I get though).

I would put those tools that can change the G- and P-lists on a HDD at the very bottom.

this list is about HDD diagnosis. tools near the bottom have extra functions or are more thorough
that's why tools like DMDE are not included

A well known (among techfags) Windows tool to display disk information, which happens to have animu skins available. Why? Why not, I guess.
Which pony do you think would be best suited for this tool?

not really.
I already have to explain to the guys at work all the time that yes, one of the best tools to check disk health is the one plastered with anime girls because the guy who made it is apparently a huge weeb.

it's not an unprecedented expectation that a pony theme may exist too.

But it isn't the best tool. smartmontools is much better, but you can't be working in a very high place in the first place if your company is running Windows.

Don't care for corporate use, Windows has been good for me at home (although I use LTSC).
10 introduced a very nice and efficient way of compressing files on hard drive (saved 200GB on my drive with torrents and what not). The gui for it is called Compactor (I don't remember its name in CMD).
For making backups and managing partitions I use Macrium Reflect and Macrorit Partition Expert.

testdisk and gparted aren't about disk diagnosis. fsck is basically chkdsk. GSmartControl is a GUI for smartctl

are you an employee or are you here to work? if you are here to work the best strategy is to push your company's exec to migrate to a system you control, and ask em for a rise.

But hard drive compression is different. I don't need to decompress files to use them. It's nice for video games that take up a lot of space (reduction from 30GB to 18GB). Load times don't seem to have changed.
7zip is great for emulated games like PS2 ISOs or NDS games. Other formats like Saturn, Dreamcast or PS1, I compress with CHD something.
>if the built in disk management doesn't work then god help you
As I said I use macrorit for it
Built in Windows partitioner remembers Windows XP if not 2k or NT (can't tell from my head now but the only change they added since was GPT support since MBR limits partition size to 2TB).
