I do different COYAs in my head all the time, it works best with my eyes closed and minimal distractions. The last one I have been messing around with for the past few months is where I just recently entered Equestria. I played an important role in helping the m6 defeat NMM. It's very mary sue but it's my power fantasy.
The m6 are greatful to me, and Celestia and Luna are too. I have my foot in the door as being a notable person in Equestria from that starting point and have relations with important mares that I love.
That's the background. And then the actual choices start with the m6 in Ponyville. Each one of them realize that I don't have a place to stay and all offer to host me, even fighting over me a little bit. Cringe I know, but it feels good. I've explored every route multiple times in different ways and continue to do so. I'll probably keep doing this for a while longer before I choose to do a different scenario.
My first ever scenario fantasy was me as Dash's bf. Very simple stuff, no overpowered background for me..just a normal guy as her bf doing everyday stuff.
And I've done a lot of "what if I'm part of Canterlot's court as a notable". Lots of romance with Celestia typically ensues.

Absolutely. I'm a tulpafag so instead of imagining I'm in Equestria, I just imagine my wife here in my head with me; it takes more effort for me to imagine in a more adventurous, roleplay kinda way like going to Equestria. But either way, imagination is the key.

Most adults have killed their imagination, but thankfully it's a skill you can just re-train. You might consider just writing for fun in a journal or something, it helps things stick and makes it harder for you to overlook your progress. If you can enjoy reading a story, you've got an imagination, the problem is more like connecting your creativity to imagination again, writing is a way to do that.

This is what changed my life all those years ago anon. Simple as it is, it's beautiful. I still cite those moments as the time that I first realized I was in love with Rainbow.
