I think his S2 debut is his strongest appearance, and Make New Friends But Keep Discord is the funniest episode of FiM. However, many of his episodes suffer from the writers not knowing what to do with him, to the point I can't blame someone for hating Discord based on S8/9. The comics try too hard to portray him as a dindu nuffin.

He's been mai waifu for laifu since 2011 because he's a complex, flawed and paradoxical character whom I resonate with deeply. His design is god-tier, his voice acting his top notch.
If we ignore him being quasi-immortal and omnipotent, he's a surprisingly realistic character who's arguably more relatable than most ponies. Though I refrain from applying diagnoses to cartoon characters, Discord really does seem to have a personality disorder or two because he suffers for being the way he is as much as he makes others suffer. Even back in S2 he seemed unhappy, so protecting his smile became my calling. Others hate him for the exact reasons I adore him. Discord is kind of a loser but he's simultaneously the best thing since sliced bread.

Unironically my favorite character in the show. I headcannon him in my fics as an omnipotent god who knows all, past present future, but simply acts the fool when the timeline requires it. Discord works the best when he's portrayed this way imo, because it doesnt stretch too far outside the bounds of what he already does in the show. Watching him set up the world like a game of chess solely for the purpose of characters learning a lesson so they can progress the correct timeline is peak.

Discord was the biggest reason why I got into MLP back in 2011. I remember a lot of people being salty at first when his character design was revealed, and then even more upset when his personality, abilities, hell even his voice were inspired if not straight ripped off from Q in Star Trek. But I guess that was the springboard that got me into Star Trek after.

Discord was so different from what we'd seen from FiM before--and probably even after--and I ate that shit up BECAUSE he was so different. Sadly, his episodes were pretty hit and miss after they brought him back, the writers definitely didn't know what to do with him sometimed. And while I'm not a fan of the whole Fluttershy "I can fix him" arc, they did a good job making it almost work in the show. And it's a hell of a lot better than what happened with Q in Star Trek: Picard.

The chaotic fucker is what kept me coming back to FiM. I liked his interactions with Spike and Big Mac, how his "reformation" isn't immediate and more gradual and believable than other characters. While I liked the idea of the whole arc of Grogar in S9 (like how Q putting the universe in danger just for Picard to learn about himself and the world around him), it definitely fell flat for me in the end. Again, it wasn't complete dogshit like Picard S2 did with Q but it could have been better.

Either way, I don't get why people don't like Discord aside from Flutterfuckers being mad he took their waifu or whatever.

I just rewatched Return of Harmony, just to refresh myself on the basics, and he's so sex. I don't know what other word to use. It's not 'sex' sex, as in, I don't mean that I want to fuck him (although perhaps that wouldn't be unwelcome) but this feeling transcends merely appreciating his design and character. Maybe it's that I'm in love and I can't comprehend it. Stupid fucking spaghetti dragon. He's perfect.

Well, ships exist to pair up any characters you want, regardless of anything. Though I enjoy the ones that would work within the actual show the most.

Anyway, I'm not talking about ships, but rather the purpose that Discord and Fluttershy's dynamic was intended to fulfill. Celestia wanted to tame Discord to use his powers to her advantage, so she wanted Fluttershy to reform her through kindness. Why specifically her and why specifically kindness? I mean, Applejack could have taught him to be honest, Rarity to be generous and it would have been the same. And again, characters like Pinkie or Twilight won't probably make sense regarding to the element they represent but they would've presented a more interesting and fun dynamic with Discord.

Spitballing ideas, maybe it was because the writers realized Fluttershy doesn't really do much? Out of all the mane 6, I feel like she contributes the least to group dynamics, and her special talent for animals comes up so rarely she's effectively the group Aquaman. Maybe the Discord thing was done so that her character would have more going for it and wouldn't be so dull in comparison to the rest. He was good as a bad guy, and considering that he has long-standing history with Celestia and Luna, I could see him being a recurring villain, but """reforming""" him was a terrible idea. First off he's still very clearly a threat to their society (Unleashed the Legion of Doom) and considering that he groomed those villains to band together and try to topple Equestria that shows that he's learned nothing in terms of trying to be "good." He should've been a perennial nemesis to the ponies and it would've made more sense if he got meaner and stronger up until the end where he would've been the final boss instead.

I like him a lot, both as a villain and a secondary character. He's just funny, and while meta jokes usually suck I really how he does them. I get why people dislike him later on when he fucks around with Twilight and co but I think they're just forgetting the fact that Discord is just as emotional as any other pony in the show, he just takes it out in his own way, which is especially bad for everyone else considering he's basically a chaos god. Honestly him getting mad at not getting included so he pisses off his friends without telling him his problem hits a little close to home, so I guess that makes me feel for him.

Also shipping him with Twilight is fun, chaos and harmony and all that.
