>episode moral ends with “ladies by being smart and cunning can beat unlikely situations expected of them” or something like that.
Why? This episode makes zero sense, what the fuck is this end moral?

The only thing that made it my least favourite episode was Rarity’s crying. I know, it was a petty excuse to dislike an episode but I was 8 back in 2010.

The main point is that Rarity isn't a damsel to be rescued, and you could see it going deeper in a romantic sense if you take into account that Spike imagines himself as the knight in this episode and she as the princess waiting patiently for him (as far as what to expect from a real woman and not get carried away by fictional fantasies).
But anyway, the main point is that not all women are passive morons who need someone else to solve all their problems, some are intelligent and can handle themselves according to their own abilities, without needing to be super powerful Mary Sues who are essentially just male characters with boobs like most media in the 21st century.

That's it, a deconstruction of your typical "oh no, she's in danger, we have to go on an adventure to rescue the female of the group!" episode, which is why it's a joke in itself that by the time everyone else arrives, Rarity has already solved the problem.

I mean, yeah, the first thing you might think of it in this way is that it's feminist propaganda to convince the world that women are already super powerful.
But if you think of it as a cartoon for preschoolers girls, teaching them to "don't be passive bitches and solve their own problems," and not portraying the situation as if Rarity were a fighter Mary Sue, but intelligent instead, it's pretty based.

But Anon, I don’t think preschoolers should be learning that whining and bitching will solve themselves being captured by a kidnapper.

The moral was "Just because a pony is lady like doesn't mean she's weak."

The episode implies that she was using tact and intentionally annoying them to get out of a bad situation.

But she wasn't. She was just being a whiney bitch. In most situations this would get her abused or raped. Even if she wasn't it wouldn't be hard to tie her up and gag her or straight up strangle her until she stops.

>>42272568
No. It wasn't. She had no idea that her friends were coming. She was being a bitch genuinely.

You need to rewatch the episode, she absolutely is intentionally playing them. She starts off helping them when it's something that she's easily capable of and she believes will get her her freedom, then when they start pushing things she starts off with being slow and ineffective to get out of doing the work, then plays it up more and more once she learns that whining actually bothers her captors. If it hadn't worked she would've used a different tactic, you silly filly.

The message seems solid, but how they portrayed it does seem flawed a bit.
Also, she is lucky the DD needed her to find gems otherwise they could have killed her (not really since it's a kid show but the idea is she is useful so she must be kept alive).

I can see how that was the idea of the episode, but "subversion of damsel in distress" didn't come over well enough. What we see is "you can coerce your captors by whining". The episode would have been much better if, say, Rarity used her knowledge of gems to play the Diamond Dogs against each other. Tell one dog there's a giant gem he can keep for himself if he takes out the others and obeys her. Thrown in some positive feminine charm (it's Rarity after all) and you have the same plot without the downsides.

Agreed, a version of the story where she turns the Diamond Dogs against eachother would be a more interesting approach and be better for the moral, but I do like the episode as is. It's silly and fun.

Rarities' scheming only works because it was a contrived situation. Picrel if she tried to act like this in a normal kidnapping. She would have been broken down and domesticated like the horse she is.

Sure but she also only goes for that scheme because of the situation. If you watch it she starts off with being helpful, then decides to pretend to be useless, and then finally settles on being useless and obnoxious when she sees that it's an effective tactic. If her poor digging hadn't rewarded her with getting out of work she would've changed tactics.

It took me rewatching after like 15 years to remember. You're right but now that I revisit the older episodes I start to realize why I started to slowly hate Rarity.

I am in no way suggesting that she should not have worked to find a way to free herself. Just that I'm realizing the Mane Six members I dislike the most seem antithetical to their supposed element.

Granted. She does not have to be generous all of the time. But I feel like that when she IS generous it's hardly ever genuine. Rather to serve her own desires. I still love her. I just don't think, like Rainbow Dash, I would ever want to hang with her for too long.
