Of these three, who made the shittiest attempt at trying to take over Equestria?

Chrysalis is retarded for attempting a hostile takeover at all. Her race is built for subterfuge and remaining undetected. Shapeshifting was their greatest asset and all Chrysalis did that day was severely cripple said asset by announcing to all of Equestria that changelings exist and could easily be in your midst. She violated the masquerade.

Discord is the only one who tried. He only failed because he got too cocky in playing with his victims.

>elephants of harming are the only thing that can stop you
>you can get to the elememes and do with them as you like
>don't erase them from existence or bury them in the core of the planet
>instead, put them in twilight's house because ??? funny
>die
I've got to respect the sheer commitment to being retarded.

Chrysalis basically succeeded with her coup and was only stopped because the pony she was disguised as just HAPPENED to be the babysitter to Twilight Sparkle so she was able to tell something was up, even after she got found out she still put up a great fight and was able to take over Canterlot and personally defeat Celestia
Discord took over the country and only allowed himself to be beaten for shits and gigs
Nightmare Moon did literally nothing but hide in her castle until the Mane 6 showed up to shoot her in the face with lasers so she loses

honourable mention to King Sombra who only lost because he didn't build enough stairs to delay Spike on the ONE day he decided to be useful

Have we ever seen Discord's magic actually destroy things? Besides that, the Elements might have been too powerful to outright destroy.

Quads have spoken. In NMM's defense, she got rid of Celestia and could not have foreseen the abandoned EoH suddenly gaining new champions. Her trying to scare away the M6 instead of attacking them highly suggests that she is relatively benevolent towards her subjects. So her debut might have been a bit lame at first glance, amounting to having camped in the Everfree for half a beautiful full moon night, but she's actually quite interesting a character.

Discord is the one who messed it up the worst. He doesn't even have concrete ambitions for conquering Equestria, he just wants to fuck around and find out, so gambling his kingdom away doesn't even matter. Removing the EoH for good would have been lame, ironically removing the chance for the single most chaotic scenario to take place, the "jinx" scenario: The very M6 who he made an effort to mindbreak break free from his control. He just couldn't identify this scenario actually ocurring for whatever reason, so he didn't correct course.
He was either too startled or likely too prideful to teleport away from the incurring Friendship Laser and would have been imprisoned for centuries had Celestia not taken pity on him. Him BEING released instead of breaking free himself means he now owes his agency/life to somepony else, which makes him less of a godlike entity. It's a mortal's thing to be gifted life instead of being a force of nature. That's a harder fall from grace than losing a kingdom of bugs is to a bug Queen who could technically just go and start over in the next best swamp if only she gitted gudd instead of going crazy.

I'm not sure Moonie wanted to win at all. We could chalk up her actions post reappearance to just being dumb because she's a cartoon but she basically set up situations for the mane 6 to prove themselves to the elements rather than personally picking them off in the forest.
Maybe realizing almost nobody knew who she was after 1000 years was too much of a blow to who she was as a person.

Sounds like it was the sweet little Luna inside of NMM setting herself up for redemption. Because NMM looked relieved when the EoH didn't work at first.

He burned a tree by sneezing in TAC and turned those low-quality Flim & Flam dolls into ashes in Best Gift Ever. And he causes lots of collateral damage whenever his magic does more than being an inconsequential visual gag. Even some of the visual gag ones cause BG ponies grief, such as a house floating away or crumbling after sneezing. Somehow, he even broke a window of Ponyville's schoolhouse, as stated by Diamond Tiara, and unless he crashlanded into it, it myst have been caused by his magic somehow.

I think there's similarities between her and Discord's approaches, in that neither of them were taking the threat of the Elements seriously and were indulging themselves on messing with the Mane 6 instead of stopping them directly. From their perspectives, they've already won from the word 'go' and are free to dick around as they like. Chryssi's the only one who made key mistakes besides only being too certain of victory.

There's a little reaction shot just before he gets nuked that I think is telling, where Twilight demonstrates that her magic can overpower his. He's not even mad, just bemused. I think some part of him knows full well what's coming, but he's enjoying the show too much to avert the danger in good time (not that he would've made it far, anyway). I can't think of a more fitting way for him to lose than 'hold on, let's see where this goes'.

Yes, and he doesn't teleport away in S3 either although he could have. In S2, I interpreted him as not even looking that satisfied with his own Chaos Capital because it's exactly the way he created it, so the M6 actually presenting danger to him, or at least something outside of his control, is something he'd welcome. However, when he's actually turning back to stone, he's devastated, which means he fucked up.

I donโ€™t get why discord teleporting away wouldโ€™ve stopped the elements anyway. Their magic is that they restore harmony, I doubt that they actually need to hit the opponent head on
