I feel G1 can be a little boring (especially since it came up with a new cast of mares all the time just for the sake of selling them).
I enjoyed My Little Pony Tales the most, and G3 is so comfy and charming I just couldn't stop thinking about better times through all all of its runtime.

I didn't grow up with it, but back when I watched it with my girlfriend at the time in 2018 (since she was a fan, and she convinced me to stop being a fag and give it a try) I couldn't stop thinking about better times either: I thought about my parents, how Christmas felt like when I was a kid, how receiving new toys felt like, and those feelings you simply don't get to experience genuinely ever again.
It's weird as fuck to see Rainbow acting like Rarity, Cheerilee being a queen (I think she was a queen?), Rarity being a retarded kid, and Pinkie acting like she's about to kiss Minty everytime she's close to her, but it was cool to see very different versions of the characters.

Starting with G4, I was totally turned off by all MLP bullshit. I saw it like Barbie or something similiar, where it's just for little girls and worthless to my Samurai Jack and ATLA taste. That's how and why G4 grabbed my attention initially, it was written in a familiar tone and cadence like Foster's or Spongebob, and that solidified in my mind that I was something like a Maverick for liking it in spite of what I saw it stood for.

G1 on the other hand took some convincing. Of course I hated how it looked, and sounded, and spoke, but after actually watching it I was surprised at how immediate peril was to the cast and world. And it didn't stop, every arc kept basically being a G4 finale/premiere. Now I think G4 has more in common with G3 than G1 in terms of having slice-of-life girly moe bullshit that I sleep through. G1, for its time, and budget, and presence, still managed to channel more adventure and struggle than I had thought. I've almost completely flipped my views on G1 vs G4. I still like G4 obviously but G3 will forever be the sesspit that only a little girl could have the stomach for. Stick to your trite moe and leave the horses out of it.

I've watched through all of G1, Tales and G3. It has a lot of cute moments, characters and concepts, but it doesn't work as a whole to me. I don't plan to watch really any of it again. I would rather have all of the good worked into G4 and in that art style.

I just started watching g1.
Immediately I'm hit with "I wish the voice acting and singing was as good as FiM"
But, it's got that 80s soul to it, so it's still worth watching.
Not sure how I feel about Megan as a main character. She's not bad, just seems weird that she gets a pegasus to fly her into episodes. But I guess she really is the og anon in equestria.

She was the pony with the most screentime alongside Pinkie (even more than Rainbow, the one supposed to be the main marketable one since she's the stylist and the one that wears the dresses), and for some reason they replaced her with Scootalo, Sweetie Belle, and Cheerilee (even though none of them did shit) halfway through G3 and all the way until 3.5

G3.5 feels for me like the characters have so much more personality and emotion ranges than before (except RD) and more unique dynamics. Like, ever seen a pony angry or frustrated in normal G3 before? No, not really; there are some few moments where you think a conflict could happen but their anger just vanishes seconds after. G3.5 is also way more comedic than early G3 ever could be. It kind of feels like proto G4 for me in a way. I'm not saying G3.5 is the best of G3, The Princess Promenade and A Minty Christmas are better, but not by that much.

If you look at the toys, G3.5’s look just like G4—just like G4.5’s look just G5. Also, in both mid-generations, the animation seems to look more like the toys than either of the main generations, possibly because Hasbro wants people to get used to the new look of the franchise. The shows are secondary to Hasbro. So the mid-generations usually match the look of the upcoming generation but largely featuring characters from the previous generation.

Makes me wonder if there’s going to be a G5.5 this time around. Usually the mid-generations come so that there’s not a huge gap in media being released, but it sounds like we’ve got TWO MORE FUCKING YEARS of this drought. Maybe that was misreported. Maybe that’s the time it will be before G6 but maybe we really will get G5.5 before then.

I wonder what the new toys will look like. Hopefully we get a return to the pretty toys of G1 and 3, or possibly even something like G2! It’s not as big of a deal as it sounds because the series was basically over before she disappears. She’s there up until the Core 7 era, which is basically just proto G3.5. Same time as Rainbow Dash’s voice changes and a lot of other shit is changed. She’s there for all the great episodes of G3.

I only got to watch Princess Promenade with my sister in a roadtrip when I was 11, and I remember thinking it Wysteria and all the cast was super cute
I haven't watched anything other than G4, but I think the best way I can describe G3 is "they all are extremely huggable". They all are adorable, and what I've seen from videos like that compilation of Minty being autistic they make me feel a weird comfort and cuteness G4 really never made me feel.
I kinda understand now why most of the girls at my school and my sister were so attached to the G3 ponies; the ponies and the specials are very comforting and pacifying, and any little girl would want them as their friends.
