Genuinely the way I see it, I think Twilight or the rest of the Mane 6 were either:
1.Threatened by Sombra by seeing Discord "extremely hurt" by him, thus thought more force was needed than in reality.
2.At least two of them, if not more, were extremely emotional upon seeing a friend get seriously hurt, thus using more force than necessary.
That's just in the moment, I wouldn't go so far as to say Discord bringing him back caused his atomisation, as he was given the chance to work with other powerful villains. But I do think Discord caused his death in that moment.

Also I genuinely think Tirek, but not Cozy or Chrissy could be redeemed.
