The elements of harmony was a stupid idea in the first place. The "oh they're the elements because they try very hard at the thing they suck at" cope is extra retarded. The show would've been better off without it at all.

I think the idea would've been fine if they built up to using them rather than them being introduced and used in the pilot of the show.

Also an excuse to bruteforce them to be friends who have to put their differences aside and work together in order to keep their homeland from getting axed despite having nearly nothing in common with eachother. The show takes a christian-coded style of heroic storytelling but with secular morality in the place of actual christianity and trancendent transhumanism in the place of divine intervention, aka, magic of "friendship". The concept of Friendship in the show is as logical and objective as it is divine and immeasurable, it's not optional or questionable in the exercise of righteousness, it's ENFORCED by the laws of nature. It's devoid of any philosophical, sociological or theological meaning or complexity, it's just lazy writing.

Honestly I consider the lore of MLP to be one of its most overrated aspects. It was passable in the first two seasons because it was abstract enough that a lot of answers could be filled in by fan interpretation, but the further you get into the show the worse it gets. Not to say that it doesn't have any cool stuff at all though.
