Finished Longtalons.
To me this was the ideal form of a sidefic. Good use of the Jinxed trait from the original games to write a character around. Expands on the lore and tells the story of Fillydelphia from another POV, but reinforces the morals of the big fics. Tone is melancholy, but the biggest feels are front-loaded and it has a happy ending.
Would definitely recommend to any Murky enjoyers.

Remnant Anon here, here's a little lore blorp I have for the changelings in my fic.

Pre war: After the defeat of Chrysalis and her hive in their failed invasion of Canterlot, the Changeling hives became more withdrawn and secluded due to fear of Equestrian retaliation and the aftermath of the invasion not only caused Equestria but most of the world to grow more aware of the threat the Changelings prose, within the following decades the Changelings began their industrial revolution developing their own unique technology made out of organic material but even with their unique breakthroughs in science the Hives were still considered technologically and industrially inferior to Equestria and the Zebra empire.

Great War: during the outbreak of the great war the Changeling hives joined the war as an unofficial third party with many of the hives seeing the war to gain power and to crush the battered victor of the war be it Equestria or the Zebra empire these plans however changed dramatically with the creation and distribution of the first megaspells causing the hives to go into overdrive as their plans switched from changeling domination and supremacy to changeling survival and preservation, in preparation of the worst the hives began abducting both Pony and Zebra as nothing more but stockpiling food in preparation of the worst outcome and ordering their infiltrated agents to try and deescalate the war from ending in Balefire Armageddon, but their efforts were for not as the last day came anyway with Hives bunkering down with their communications began quickly breaking down as the Queens gave the last order to their agents who they still had in contact with, survive at any cost and make it back to the hive at any cost.

Post war: Following the Last day the Hives were able to withstand nuclear Armageddon in thanks to their isolated locations and the anti magical fields that their thrones were able to produce but following after the last day the Hives quickly began fighting among each other as many Changeling hives died out due to not having any stockpiled "food" or being conquered by a greater hive but nether the less the Changeling were able to survive as a race and were able to maintain their civilization somewhat with the Hives becoming isolated city states, over the passing of the last two centuries the Changelings have become nothing more then a boogeyman with many ponies believing their existence to be nothing more then myth and fairytale to keep the little colts and fillies from misbehaving, with now and days many changelings choosing to operate in brothels as prostitutes as a quick and easy way to feed themselves.

That would be true its just most of the hives want to be left alone so they don't attract the attention and ire of someone like the Steel Rangers or Enclave, keyword most the Hive that takes the role of major antagonist within Remnants is a hive that never lost the initial goals and ambitions the changelings had at the at the start of the great war and having infiltrated almost every society in the regions that Remnants take place in, they even have infiltrated the Enclave and Steel Rangers with the end goal of reforming the Confederated Monarchy the Changelings once had and to make sure her subjects her children will never starve or be afraid of the outside world.

Also this, the Hives after the last day went through a massive famine that killed millions and it didn't help their government broke down within the span of weeks and this caused a war between the hives for resources and the hoarding of even more "food" and it didn't help that the Changelings couldn't even leave their hives due to the high risk of radiation poisoning and the Changelings biotech being ill-suited to for the task of being able to withstand Balefire radiation.

Well yes kinda, the orange Hive as I will be calling them for now until I get a better name for them aren't bigger then the other hives they're the only ones daring enough to play with fire to bring in a new golden age for their race, as I have stated before is because their Queen is a morally grey figure that just wants to bring in a new age for her "children" to grow and prosper in, and one of the reasons why nopony has seen or heard of a Changeling outside a few isolated incidents is because one. My FoE tabletop game finally got off the ground. The party got tasked with clearing out an old industrial house full of various water bugs and generally had a rough time of it. The dice were being real cunts. Highlights include:
>me managing to hold and track three conversations at the same time during the session opening
>the alicorn and ghoul grouching at each other like an old married couple
>the party of five flailing wildly at a trio of giant silverfish for almost an hour because no one could hit them
>the silverfish hitting but not hard enough to hurt anyone; the most damaged combatant was the Rogue's pride after she got tripped and knocked prone
>the babby alicorn almost getting strangled to death by a giant crab in the mare's bathroom
>the party dropping about 10 tons of slag iron onto what would have almost certainly been a TPK encounter otherwise
>two silverfish matrix dodging out of a dynamite explosion during the final encounter of the night and just generally refusing to die
Fucking bugs, dude. I was having flashbacks to every time I try to shoot down bloatflies without a shotgun during the first combat. And even when hits landed they were almost always chip damage. Next week they get to deal with a trogg ambush, which I'm hoping will be a little more dynamic.

I'd blab about plot but not too much happened besides some intro work and them getting moved to the dungeon. Although I have noted that only one member of the party seems actively keen on escaping enslavement, and mostly for reasons that are going to bite her in the ass pretty hard even if she gets what she wants, so that's been on my mind a bit.

Lieutenant Red Glare glanced down at her sidearm, secure in its holster around her foreleg. In her mind's eye she could picture it: unsnapping the holster, drawing the pistol, removing the safety. She'd been imagining it for over a minute now, but her brain was refusing to act on it.

“...and their flagrant use of illegal and horrific warfare tactics today shall only strengthen our resolve.”

She returned her gaze to the bridge of the Raptor 'Nimbostratus'. Commander Winter was continuing his speech over the Enclave command frequency from the captain's chair beside her. The bridge crew were staring at them with a mixture of fear and unease. The ensign mare at the communications station looked like she was about to cry.

One more time. She had to try one more time.

"Commander, please." Red Glare fought to keep her voice even. "There are civilians with foals down there. Non-combatants. We need to stop the attack and withdraw. Until we can re-assess our orders."

Her commanding officer released the microphone and turned in his seat. "Enough of this!" he declared sternly, fixing his icy blue eyes on her. "I will not tolerate insubordination on my ship! Operation Cauterize is in effect, and we have our orders." The stallion looked away from her and across the bridge. "All of you, back to your posts! Resume the bombardment." His hoof retrieved the broadcaster again. “Fly steady!...”

That was it then. Red Glare steeled herself for what she was about to do. She took one last look at Commander Winter. He was a thirty-year veteran of the Enclave Skyguard with a spotless service record. A decorated officer who was calmly ordering the massacre of the town of New Appleoosa. A loyal soldier whose dedication to duty was sending them all to hell.

She had no other choice. Nopony else could stop this. This was mutiny. Treason. Unthinkable...

Red Glare took a steadying breath, then finally willed her head down. She unsnapped the holster, drew the pistol in her mouth, and tongued the safety. She pointed it at the commander.

“...And do not forget that your actions here make your brothers and sisters, your families back home, safe once..." His ear flicked, and he started to turn his head. "Red? What are...?”

There was an ear-splitting CRACK as she fired. The bullet struck the side of Commander Winter's head, just behind the right temple. The stallion bucked, released a rattling gasp and fell sideways out of his chair.

Red Glare re-safetied the smoking pistol and let it clatter to the deck. She glanced back over the shocked faces and dropped jaws of her bridge crew. A shriek of horror arose from the communications ensign. The rest of them were stunned into silence.

Slowly, deliberately, she walked around the captain's chair and eased into the seat. She looked over the arm and flinched as she saw the dying body of Commander Winter, blood oozing from the bullet wound onto the deck. The mare pulled her gaze away, took up the broadcaster in her hoof, and depressed the button.

She gulped her dry throat. “This battle is over. I am invoking the Shutterflight Protocol. All Enclave forces are to withdraw immediately and assist.”

Red Glare released the microphone and turned to the helmsmare. "Helm..." she rasped, cleared her throat and tried again. "Helm, turn heading to two-one-zero degrees. Raise altitude to five thousand. Prepare to retrieve fliers."

The helmsmare hesitated only briefly before saluting. "Yes, ma'am."

"And contact the ship's doctor. Have him retrieve the commander's...body."

"Yes, ma'am."

The deck below them rumbled as the cloudship turned and began to ascend. Acting Commander Red Glare excused herself and slid off the captain's chair. She caught one more glimpse of Winter's lifeless hooves before turning and walking off the bridge. Red Glare made her way to the lavatory across from the cloudship's bridge, slid the door closed, opened the chemical toilet's lid, and promptly threw up.

Finished Wasteland Economics, on recommendation from old /FoE/. It was...okay.
The setting is really neat, deep south Equestria with cajun ponies and creole gators. But Alloy was hard to like as a character. She's too spergy and antisocial, at least in the beginning. That thing with her and Copper was so contrived.
Also once again we have a cute, sympathetic villain who does NOTHING WRONG but who I am supposed to dislike for some reason!

I still haven't forgiven him for this. The worst decision across all 1.78 million words. No ball was ever so dropped. Obviously Blackjack would've had to fix it eventually, but imagine the chapters of luscious tension, seeing the bewildered humiliated males of friendly encampments enslaved to the powerful MARES she grew up alongside.
We were robbed. We were robbed of Blackjack having the "mom, raping stallions is bad" conversation too.
Also would've been fun if Blackjack had actually struggled to acclimate to non-99 gender norms a little. Like I was expecting a couple faux-pas when interacting with stallions here and there.
