The others who were always struggling with "finding stuff to do" or in general to entertain themselves in SL usually left for good quite early on.
So I'd say if you really don't see a point, maybe even after giving it a try, it's no big deal to forget about it. All this here scratches a certain autistic itch and if you don't feel it, it's just not something you'd enjoy and forcing it would just be a waste of your time.

The fashion event.
Some random objects could easily steer pony heads randomly all the time or sometimes even lock the head angle to something underground making the hud kinda useless in that moment.

If avatar-only was toggled on in this situation then the heads would only focus on the pony walking on the catwalk (and the occasional moving audience ponies). After the event is over you could just toggle tracking both avatars and objects back on again.

But, I do just wanna note, fun in SL is kind of just... what you make of it. You say you met friends who are into it, talk to them, see about doing activities with them. The game is entirely what you make of it, if you're not content with just idly chatting I'd recommend keeping track of how many are online. Sometimes things are really dead and other times a lot of stuff is happening at once. If there are only a hooffull of ponies online it might not be worth it for you to try and get on.
There are some regularly scheduled events such as parties, havok, field trips, movies, events, photoshoots e.t.c. but some of the most fun I have is doing simple things in the moment with frens. For example I've never even touched on photography, havok or lewd stuff (or frankly anything that requires effort).
Ultimately it's a social game, what do you enjoy doing with others?

Again, that's not how it works. You don't just master one art fundamental at a time, and then when you think that's "done" or "good enough", move on to the next; rather, you learn them in tandem.

These elements don't exist in a vacuum. They're interrelated. Your knowledge of one builds on your knowledge of the others.

However, if you do notice that the dancer is playing it can easily be turned off just by typing 'off' in chat. This works surprisingly well for most dancers. I DON'T do any of the laying down guidelines and shit. I don't work out skeleton shapes or basics or what have you. And I never have. Yet my art has actually surpassed some friends who were better than I was years ago who DO that stuff.
I literally just... get idea, start throwing down sketches till it looks right, then I follow through with line and color till I'm content with how it looks.
sometimes I even skip the sketch part and just pen something till it looks nice. picrel I just.. drew that. no reference no particular inspiration, just hors and a sort of understanding of anatomy.
