Nov 1st onwards: Gift assignments will be given out. After gift assignments are finalised card assignments will be given out, please be patient.
Dec 1st - 10th is the latest suggested mailing period. Consider mailing on the early side if you’re shipping internationally.

I am going to try to do some crafting for small extra gift this year. I have made one but it is not perfect and I want to redo it. I hope I get another few blank slates to start with and hopefully get it all together before sending out.

I'm doing 10 (+5 extra) for years now, and if I can give you a piece of advice, it's to make a checklist of everything.
Like, for each cardee, the name, real name, address, card, trinklet or whatever stickers you add to the card.
And to check each as long as you prepare your cards.
This way, you can streamline a bit, and be sure not to forget anything.

It was just simply too much for me to get them done by the end of the month with the sewing and crafting I was doing last year, since I hand make my cards and do drawings in them. Not sure a checklist would have helped, but thanks for the advice anyway. Might do that this year.

Well I painted each card so once I got all of the sketches done, it was easy enough to paint them in groups sorted by what ponies and colors I'd be doing. Instead of spending a bunch of time waiting for one card to dry, I could just move on and paint the next one.

The hardest ones to do are white ponies like Rarity and Vinyl scratch.

I keep them separate. It is called SECRET Santa for a reason. Also, having your new ID linked to your old one gives a ton of info on you, especially if you've been around for a while. For example, if people can link you to an awesome gift you gave years past then they may expect something just as good or better; and I'd rather not set expectations due to them doing some sleuthing.

Hope everyone has been having a lovely time so far. I just wanted to pop in for a check in. I'm a little bit further behind on assignments than I was last year; had a little bit of a bumpy ride lately, as well as some family projects requiring attention. The goal of course is still to start hitting send on these assignments as soon as the calendar flips to November. Just giving everyone a heads up; last year I think I managed to get literally all of those assignments prepped and ready to go so all I had to do was run a mail merge at midnight. I don't think you need to tell everyone, but I also don't see why not. The "secret" in Secret Santa is about keeping your IRL name under wraps, and past participants getting a new holiday ID isn't even mandatory.
If someone does enough sleuthing they'll be able to link you to a previous ID anyway, especially if you have a particularly unique style of autism, and the more info your santa has on you the better they can tailor your gift. If someone's setting expectations for the gift they'll get that's on them, and if you're really worried about that you can just keep your own ID out of your santee callouts.

Finally checking in, real life and the anni has kept me too busy to post until now. So many familar names again this year, love to see you guys still around, in addition to all our newfriends. I pushed myself too hard earlier this year and it led to a month long mental breakdown after Mare Fair. Something just "broke" a few years ago, and it took conscious effort to not kms. My psychosis(?) went on in spurts for at least six months, more like a year, I can't tell how it started or ended, but it has ended. You're not crazy or bad, it's just your brain that's temporarily malfunctioning and needs tender self-care to rebalance, no more shameful than having any other illness.

Ask someone you trust to help you get another medical check-up on this if it's unclear what you're dealing with. Is it panic attacks or something else? Can it be medicated? Or just have them check in on you and listen, so you don't self-isolate too much, bro.

You may not be able to handle assignments this year for one reason or another, but you can still lurk, draw/write about OCs or host a raffle on your own terms if it helps you stay calm and anchored. All of these are crucial ingredients to /ss/ being fun and merry.

Hey friend. First, yes, I am reading this, and second listen friend, i understand where you’re coming from and I know things get really hard sometimes. I had a bit of a breakdown last year towards the end of /ss/ as well that led to me falling off the wagon after nine years, and after spiraling for a few months I ended up leaving my job as well and moving back to my hometown to have folks around to keep me clean. I know you can hit the bottom sometimes and it really really sucks and hurts and feels like nothing will get better. Sometimes we have to just trust the people around us to hold that happiness and hope for us until we have the capacity to pick it up again. Since we’re on the western theme this year, there used to be a thing with cowboys, or so I am told, that when they broke camp for the morning they would scoop up the embers of the fire into their kettle, and it would be someone’s job to take care of it for the day to relight the fire at night. Sometimes you don’t have your own fire and warmth, and you just have to trust that someone else is taking care of it and it’s going to be there again later, and with some kindling you can ease it back to life, feed it, and one day it will come back as a full flame. I’m not urging you to sign up for the event because if that seems too hard right now then you’re probably right about that. But I do think you should stick around. You can put anything you want. It IS possible that using an overtly fake name could interfere with mail, and the safest solution of all if you sign up with a pseudonym is to let your post office know that that pseudonym is an authorized recipient at your address or PO Box. Ok, team. I'm calling it for the night. I have a few pockets of unassigned folks left, but at this point they're strategic pockets of 5-10 folks spread around different regions to fill out loops for last minute signups or to stand by as sub-ins in case I accidentally give out a duplicate assignment to last year because I royally fucked my sheet from last year about 1/2 way through filling out the "previous assignments" spreadsheet and now I don't know who all gave to whom, so I need some safety net. Other update: Stetson is doing very well. The bandages came off last night, but he's still wearing a layer of socks to keep him from licking. Boy howdy, it's that time of year again huh? I think this is my 4th consecutive time joining /mlp/ Secret Santa. Last year I gave out around I think it was 140-150 steam keys? The vast majority of them went out to the same maybe six to eight anons. Most of the secret questions were given incredibly low effort answers too so there was not a lot of creative flair.
I am still out of steam keys but I am thinking of sending Mega links out to ponified roms that are for NES/SNES games. And then packaging up rom libraries that are small enough to be uploaded. I have a lot of roms for a lot of consoles with emulators already set up, most (You) would have to do is reconfigure bindings for a keyboard or your controller.
