I listened to like 80% of the record and I think it is in the vocal delivery. The dude sounds like he is trying very hard to sound like other popular vocalists. A little bit of Fred here, some Jonathan there, don't forget Corey, Chino, maybe even that POD dude. Also did I just hear him say the niggerword? Kek.
Anonymous No.126563703 [Report] >>126563846
third rec is "Flipzyde"
honestly, they kinda suck, but, and this is a big but, their vocalist is really good shouting/screaming so it more then makes up for it. If I were to recommend any album from them, I'd have to choose "Electro.Pop.Metal", as it's the only one where it seemed like they actually put on their serious hat and tried.

fourth rec
The Mad Capsule Markets (Japanese band)
A little bit of skater punk, a little bit of digital hardcore, and of course nu-metal, the vocals can be a bit weak at times but all in all, they're a pretty solid band, my personal favorite album is "010" released in 2001, they're most popular album by far though is "OSC-DIS" released in 1999.

I think papa roach is a good example of how the boundary between numetal and “trve metal” isn’t always clear.

Like with their most famous song, last resort:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=j2R6uT7uLFg

I like the song, and I’ve thought to myself the main riff of the song has a very power metal vibe. I can think of a couple power metal songs that use similar styles of riffs.

It’s also almost identical to one of the riffs used in an Iron Maiden instrumental called genghis khan. (The tempo and the way the riff changes is different).

There’s other songs on the infest album like that as well.

My guess is its because of how angsty or depressed a lot of songs are. Some of the most famous songs are stuff like "in the end", "crawling", or "last resort". So people get the idea that all nu metal songs is like that (even though traditional heavy metal has a lot of stuff like that).

It's endearing and nostalgic in a way, nu-metal's always been on the peripheral of late 90s/early 2000s "edgy teen" anime culture with the biggest bands like KoRn and Linkin Park playing into it somewhat.
RoTNS just expands on that aesthetic, motherfuckers got the French voiceactor for Vegeta to feature in one of their songs.

It never was beyond the most surface level Dragonball shit. Otaku culture was driven by actual Japanese music (not nu-metal) like visual kei. It's only in recent times that anime online culture has shifted from otaku-culture to just slapping surface level anime aesthetic over other shit and calling it a day.

Nigger were you even around in the early 2000s and late 90s? Nu-metal was edgy alternative teen music and it attracted a lot of teenage weebs who thought stuff like GiTS and Gundam Seed was the hottest fucking shit.
Before the age of Youtube, Limewire was fucking flooded with Limp Bizkit/KoRN/Slipknot/Linkin Park AMVs for the most random shit.
Also Japs had tons of nu-metal bands, for a while Linkin Park was one of the biggest bands in Japan and spawned shitloads of clones like Back-on.
That's ignoring Jap nu-metal bands that weren't derivatives of Linkin Park like Dir En Grey.

visual kei isn't a genre of music, it's just a visual style and a "scene". there's vkei bands that play darkwave and vkei bands that play deathcore and there's vkei bands that play basically pop songs with a guitar thrown in.
nu-metal is a MASSIVE portion of vkei music

Friendly reminder that nu-metal was never a real genre but a marketing tool for record labels to slot in various rock and metal adjacent bands of the 90s and early 2000s that didn't fit in the mold of established rock and metal genres. This is why such radically different bands like Deftones, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit all got lumped into the same category despite sounding vastly different from each other and drawing from distinctly different influences.

Ironically Rise of the Northstar, being French, are into way more niche anime than any American might be. The back cover of the special edition of their first album is a panel from Rookies, they dress like delinquents from Crows/Rokudenashi Blues, they have bosozoku get ups and reference manga like Shonan Junai Gumi. They are very fucking cool. Pic related is the background from their bandcamp, it has RokuBlues, Rookies, Ping Pong Dash, Slam Dunk, Fist of the North Star, Akira and GTO all over it.

Obviously they also still like Dragonball, but it's more than just that like it is with most other bands trying to pretend to be cool and into anime.

Good chart, especially because it is not made by a retard who said Evanescence are nu, just because they played Bring Me to Life. I get some nu bands are not very hip hop, very funky, or very groovy, at all, but I will never get Evanescence being categorised as nu. They have got more in common with corny and cheesy female fronted gothic metal bands than (early) Deftones, (early) Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Coal Chamber, Linkin Park, etc. They are as nu metal as Lacuna Coil. Weird that you included Fear Factory as nu metal, they are more industrial metal, but not Orgy, which played industrial and nu. The chart could use more foreign shit like Ikd-sj, (early) Molotov, Bloodywood, Clawfinger, Kazik na Zywo, Bassagong, Seo Taiji, Stupeflip, Psychea, Noize MC, Planet Hemp, WOS, Th1rt3en, Flapjack, Pleymo, Urban Dance Squad, Quarashi, Puya, etc. But if you like to keep it to just 42, I guess you could do a lot worse with what you have.

Walking away is one of the best songs on that album:
https://youtube.com/watch?v=WjNb0j7dJws

It's a bit unusual for them, since it's a power ballad and has a guitar solo. It starts as off with clean guitars and a calm atmosphere but ends with Some of Fred's harshest screams.

It feels a lot more sincere but also much angrier than a lot of other limp bizkit songs.

What's the best way to compile all songs by an artist into a playlist so I can listen and see which of their songs I like?

Currently I use something which puts all their Spotify songs into a playlist but normify doesn't have every single song in the world obviously and I'm too lazy to scroll through deezer and YouTube to compare 200 songs with each other to see what's missing

Is this a nu metal song? Or does it fit more in another alt metal genre?
I'm trying to see if there are others like it. Maybe something from Sepultura during or after Roots Bloody Roots?

This song is quite different from the usual style for Manowar, who are definitely not an alt metal or numetal band (they are power metal).
The album was released in 1992, but i dont know when the song was written. It might have been intended as something experimental for them.

not sure what you're hearing in this that is experimental. i guess the spoken words part is new for them but this sounds nothing like nu-metal
Anonymous No.126650213 [Report]
>>126649752
yeah it's not super avant garde, but it's relatively experimental for them (given what they usually sound like).
There's no Chorus and only 3 verses. The bass and guitar are playing slightly different things, but there's only a single riff in the whole song,

I wonder if this is something they came up with themselves or if they were inspired by some other song.
