Why is Metallica so popular to the point of being on Fortnite when Metal is a niche genre?

They wrote songs about being a depressed loser instead of about vikings/elves/demons so normies will listen to them.

Metallica is one of the very few metal bands that actually have memorable songwriting. Each song from their prime is instantly recognizable and a lot of them are highly anthemic too. Even zoomers like them for it.

They also don't do the whole "durr we're tough metal dudes bro" act now that they're in their 60s, nor do they come across as overtly nerdy. They're like cool older uncles. This also increases their normie appeal

basically the Beatles of metal, accessible enough to be normie-friendly (the Black Album being overtly commercial) and experimental/groundbreaking enough to be respected by real music fans

yeah pretty much this. This is also why Mustaine is still so butthurt 40 years later, Megadeth is massive in the metal world, while Tallica is massive in the wide music world.

You are exaggerating. Kill 'em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and And Justice for All are all great albums. The Black Album is more commercial and Pop oriented but still a good album. 5 good albums in a row.
Even Load and Reload have very good songs between them.

it's literally music from babies
from the very first moment of their career their MO was to make everything as commercial as possible, they took the bay area thrash sound and made it as catchy and vapid as humanly possible and proceeded to continuously dillute it with other elements throughout their career but with the same goal, to appeal to as wide an audience as possible

Why do people support Orwellian democracy? Because they are retarded and can only adopt trends that are already popular.
Those capable of independent thought and emotion are few.

you are attributing the creation of a genre to the entity that is recognized today as metallica when said entity only usurped what others created at the time they were emerging in the scene
I say they make vapid commercial music that attribute their popularity to that and your counterargument is to reference their first record where half of it is decent material written by a person who's not even playing on it and the other half is the exact same vapid commercial music in a "thrash metal" context

no you have it all wrong
metallica are the queen of music
you're disgracing the beatles, who are actual pioneers and creative geniuses and who even at their most commercial they at least made boppin music, by making that comparison
metallica couldn't even in their wildest dreams think of jamming out a simply genious tune like ticket to ride, let alone an innovative masterpiece like tomorrow never knows
what has metallica achieved? their big songs like for whom the bell tolls and master of puppets are almost made to be iconic, to be endlessly referenced as a standard, not of songwriting or musical ingenuity but pop culture in itself
think of what a song like creeping death or for whom the bells tolls is meant to achieve cause it's so similar to tracks like we will rock you or we are the champions (that I can barely consider music), it's meant to entertain the way a theme park or rollercoaster ride is, not in any pure musical way

you guys act like what normies like and don't like is somehow organic. normies like what the music industry tells them to like. if the music industry wanted death metal to be the biggest genre on the planet they could do it tomorrow and you'd have starbucks-sipping teen girls wearing morbid angel shirts and calling you an incel if you wanted to listen to taylor swift.

>said entity only usurped what others created at the time they were emerging in the scene
What thrash was there before 1983 for them to "usurp", exactly?

>muh Dave wrote the good ones!
An arbitrary distinction since even the Dave songs are verse-chorus-solo fare, such as the song you literally mentioned above. I admit Dave added the coolest riffs, but let's not pretend the guy who penned "Peace Sells" is above pop metal.

I'm neither claiming dave is some progressive genious nor that he didn't make multiple attempts at the same commercial slop metallica made their entire career
all I'm saying is he was a co-creater of thrash metal, his riffs are 50% of the listenable early metallica output and megadeth's greatest songs shit all over anything metallica ever did
