I heard about brian wilson's death and felt like checking out songs from them. I don't think I've really heard of many songs by them. I may have listened to good vibrations or god only knows once or twice. But i dont remember much of it.
I Just Wasn’t Made For these times
>>126686904 (OP)Wouldn't it be nice and God Only Knows.
>>126686904 (OP)I'd recommend listening to the album you posted
Their earlier stuff is good too, check out Don't Worry Baby and I Get Around
>>126686904 (OP)Listen to all of Pet Sounds from the beginning.
>>126686904 (OP)>What beach boy songs would you recommend to someone unfamiliar with them?None of them. Beatles better
>>126686904 (OP)i recommend beach boys - summer days (and summer nights!!). its a great entry level album to get you started but you should really listen to all of their music
The early beach boys' surf rock
>>126687055i've already listened to a lot of stuff by the beatles.
Pet Sounds, Surf ballads, Busy Doing Nothin, All I Wanna Do, Smiley Smile
>>126687090So thats it. You reached the end
Help Me, Rhonda. Pretty much anything off Summer Days. Little Duece Coupe's Spirit of America is great, Why Do Fools Fall In Love is fun too.
Finally, throw a dart at Surfin' USA for some early early stuff. I guess I'm just partial to (mostly) everything pre Pet Sounds. Not trying to be a contrarian or anything but I just didn't enjoy the sound or style from there on, quite bland to me.
>>126686904 (OP)Their only hit song, California Girls.
>>126686904 (OP)just listen to all of Pet Sounds, it's like half an hour long. if you like it, listen to Surf's Up and the Smile Sessions, and then just explore around from there.
>>126687288lol why? Their early hits are better. Pet sounds is not that great.
>>126687306nah. their early hits are definitely worth listening to at some point, but Pet Sounds stands head and shoulders above.
>>126687306based and truthnvkepilled
>>126687342It really doesn't m8. Everyone remembers them for their surf rock.
Pet sounds being considered a great album is a media invention. Its considered important because it partially inspired seargent peppers and that's it. Neither are amazing listens. They're just considered influential albums in pop music.

But really you just need to listen to Pet Sounds
>>126686904 (OP)why ask for recommendations if you can't remember anything you've listened to?
>>126686904 (OP)>I may have listened to good vibrations or god only knows once or twice.so you listened to them once, twice or zero times?
maybe listen to them again to make sure?
>>126688747I dont remember everything i've heard in my life.

>>126686904 (OP)It's very unlikely that anyone is unfamiliar with the Beach Boys. Whether by osmosis or something else, everyone's heard the Beach Boys hits. If we're just talking songs, then there are hundreds and hundreds of compilation albums released. picrel is a good but ultimately arbitrary choice, but it will certainly do what's asked. The other comp albums in this series ought to be included, but this one is a fine place to begin.

>and we’ll make sweet lovin’ when the sun goes down
>we’ll even do more when mama’s not around
What did he mean by this?
I don't understand the genius of Brian Wilson but I would like to understand.
I think the first 24 seconds of Good Vibrations is incredible, but everything else I've heard doesn't really speak to me.

>>126686904 (OP)I'd recommend listening to something good instead
>>126693268oh your taste is so much better
First song I'd play someone is You're So Good To Me. If they aren't down with that, there's no hope.
>>126686904 (OP)I remember when I listened to Pet Sounds for the first time in between high school and college after growing up on dad rock (high school was an almost exclusively Pink Floyd phase). It was good and all at the start, but it wasn’t until Let’s Go Away For Awhile that it truly hit me like a truck. That was probably the most pivotal song in my life to start going my own path and becoming my own person in musical tastes.
>>126693232try listening to this

That's what he had going on in his head for every piece of music he made
the only reason it took him 8 takes is because he didn't have 8 mouths
>>126693364>it wasn’t until Let’s Go Away For AwhileFor me it's the call and response between the snare and the timpani
>Close my eyes, she's somehow closer now
>Softly smile, I know she must be kind
>When I look in her eyes
>She goes with me to a blossom world
Good Vibrations really deserved a better chorus, because the verse is so much better its not even funny.
>>126693806>I don't know where but she sends me therebest line Mike ever wrote
Not trying to meme but I always find myself singing the old lyrics to Good Vibrations,
"It's weird how she's comes/she's coming in so strong" is a really great line they should have kept-it sounds great sung
>>126693775Exactly that. I just kept repeating the passage over and over for about 10 minutes, completely blown away.
