I love that Trek episode where he got mindfucked or something and thought he was living his whole life out on some planet. So he learned the flute while he was there. Then he came back and still had the skills.

Literally how? The sound of the piano is so synonymous with the entire 19th and 20th century (classical and some jazz, basically), just like the novel is.
