do you dislike him as a person? I donโ€™t really know his antics over the years that well but he seems pretty charming besides the whole still being bitter about kicked out

In about 1995 I was working as a courier. I had a job one day to pick up and deliver a box of seven live gerbils to Brixton Academy.
I arrived at the venue and was told the person who needed to sign for the package was in the main hall so I made my way there. Stage lights were on and Megadeth were doing a sound check. I heard Dave say "let's do dawn patrol and I'm gonna have some fun with it". They played it and, to my shock, Dave sang the song an octave lower than usual finishing with a booming note in the 1st octave that, when he stepped away from the mic, filled the whole hall. It was very impressive.
After that they turned on the house lights and Dave sees me.....
"Who the f*ck is that"?
I explained who I was and Dave said "listen you little sh*head, you tell anyone about this and it's not just you but your family too"
"Understood Dave" I said.
"YOU WILL CALL ME MR MUSTAINE!" he screamed
"Okay, okay" I said. Then the manager came over to me and signed for the gerbils and Dave got on the mic again, "Do not give a tip! You wanna tip? Here's a tip, shut your f*king mouth"
Must have caught him on a bad day. Great low range though.

I used to think it was just a power struggle between him and James but when you read what others have to say about him then that paints a somewhat different picture.
>Kerry King: ""It's just his personality. I mean, look how many people have been in his band. Fifty? And that's not me down-talking Mustaine. I like hanging with him for 20 minutes, and then you go away and 'I'll see you in a year.'""

I don't know him as a person, so I have no opinion. From what I've heard he seems like he used to be a massive asshole back in the day, but supposedly he mellowed out. But again, that's just hearsay.

His current personality and ego came about only after being kicked out. Before that he never seemed to have an ego problem. If anything, it seems his kicking out was more from ego problems of James and Lars. Dave really carried the band in those early days and knowing what an egoistical cunt Lars is, I'm sure Dave being more important didn't sit right with him. That's even more apparent when they talked about Dave as if he was no one important in the band, just some guy along for the ride. And it worked, really, to this day most Metallica fanboys don't even know that Mechanix is entirely Dave's song for example.

The fact that Ellefson has been going out of his way to grab every single music journo to bitch about him every single week after getting kicked out and allied himself with the most faggy ex-Megadeth members in the band's history to make a shitty cover band makes me like Dave no matter how much of an asshole he is.

He won't get over it until James and Lars acknowledge him and his contributions to the band. It's sad but it's how it is, he was a kid with a shitty background and he got burned by his best buddies in the worst ways and only they can fix that. And really, is it that hard to give the man some proper credit?

He seems like a miserable, bitter person. Despite all the success he had over the year, the family he has that loves him..he is still miserable and can't seem to let go. He should learn to count his blessings and move on. If they did not kick them out when they did, he would have been kicked out later.

>KEA without Horsemen or Phantom lord

Lol

But more to the point, KEA would never happen without Dave. He was carrying Metallica so hard in the early days and was one of, if not the main reason they got a record deal that early. Without him, there's no Saxon gig, there's no Cliff, there's no NLTL (on which he wrote more than half of the songs) and due that, there's no KEA. He was vital for the band, everything that happened, happened that way because of him. And if Metallica never got that early boost and the first thrash album on the market, they'd never get to ride that momentum and become as big as they are today. That's a fact. This is real life, not some anime where James' and Lars' friendship conquers all. Yeah they're talented guys and they would have been known in the scene eventually but it was thanks to Dave that they got so big so quick.

He'd be even more miserable if he faded into obscurity, I think. Ron didn't really do anything in Metallica, other than provide a ride and playing space, unlike Dave who practically helped build the band up.

And really, all it would take for him to move on from it is being acknowledged by James and Lars, his contribution and importance. They kicked him out and took his music but even worse, they then acted like he was no one important, just a passing guy in the band and that everything would work out the same way with anybody else in his place which is total bullshit. It's not about money, or even fame. Even if Megadeth was bigger than Metallica, Dave would still be butthurt about it. He got betrayed by the guys he was closest to back then, you don't get over that easy, especially if you've got a shitty life behind you as Dave had.
