Ok, I actually have an answer for this. Here's one sample from the album.

Wouldn't say the rest of the band's discography is this good.

ive been in the alternative/post/math/underground/hardcore rock world for a long time and if you really like what they did on spiderland you're not gonna find better. It'll always be took straight hooky or too hardcore, not minimal enough etc. Some people say Mogwai but nah that'll disappoint

This chart is not about better, just albums that I think have a similar sound.

As for better, I couldn't find anything that puts everything together musically and narratively as effectively as Spiderland does, but there are highlights if you crave some elements more than others.
I like how Eric Chenoux pushed a more overt blues influence here
https://youtu.be/ODixB4CkOwk?si=nj8ATRorg5dTFPFe
Gradually unfurling hypnotic riffs and locking grooves fade into the background a little more as they serve as more of a medium for Enablers' epic storytelling and vocal performances.
https://youtu.be/LPVgzUWmqGI?si=fT103DMPE3NkARKj
https://youtu.be/02Jwu9fdxqA?si=lQwtUEeEsdWTFgUD
https://youtu.be/aCHPmvLn2kc?si=nKqtfa5zPLEOrBMQ
And Brian carried the torch of uneasy, inscrutable mystery the closest after the breakup
https://youtu.be/oaRCYLKC1nw?si=kUeGPtSxpaUn8wmP

You might want to look into what they reported their influences were during the writing of Spiderland

Dave and Britt were heavily influenced by Rachmaninoff
Brian was influenced by early Neil Young solo albums.
I think they were all into depression era blues musicians like Blind Willie McTell and Charley Patton.

Yo, glad to see Enablers being mentioned. End Note and Output, Negative Space are my favourites from them. Enablers is perfect for anyone interesting in the brooding spoken word of Spiderland. Lifelikeweeds is sick too for that single track; they have a 2-song self-titled EP that's more blues-y I think.

I think recommending something like Spiderland is tough becuase it brings a lot of different things together really well, so you need to know what it is you really like about it (or any album) to figure out where to go from there.

I'll second all the recs for Abilene, Lowercase (>>126715106), the For Carnation, Three Mile Pilot (>>126718641). Pretty much everything in this thread could be a good rec depending on what OP actually wants. Hell, Los Peores 7km De Mi Vida by Corea (>>126710628) also kicks ass, even if I'd say it's too far into screamo to appeal to anyone wanting more Spiderland.

My own recs:
>Deliluh - Day Catcher
their first few albums are Spiderland rips even if they don't want to admit it, but they gradually moved on from the sound
>Sofa - Source Crossfire
this is a recomp of most of their old material; more noise rock
>Monopot - Something Is Like Nothing Was
slow post-rock, kind of a mixed bag of an album, but has some intense songs
>Picastro - Red Your Blues & Metal Cares
slow post-rock of the rare bitter variety
>goldenstar - self-titled EP
a debut that came out January, really excellent and the band I'm most excited for right now; a properly good slowcore album with really tight lyricism; they've got more in the works too and one of the guys behind the project named Picastro as a recent influence, being interested in expanding the tone of their next release

Here are Sevenscore and Asleep by goldenstar:

A minor rec: the song Budd by Rapeman (a project Steve Albini was in between Big Black and Shellac). Honourary slowcore/post-hardcore classic in pretty sharp contrast to the rest of their (sadly small) discography.

really doubt there is anyfing close to spiderland. its just too unique. not saying its like the goat record (but i think it is a top top record) but youre never gna get anything that recreates that exact feel of the record even if they sound similar. many of the other stuff people put out here dont sound like it at all imo. like anudda poster said i fink mogwai was actually copying slint on their earlier records but it doesnt actually have the same feel at all though id say maybe still eorth checkin out. young team, come on die young etc

i fink a weird rec

regarding the heavier moments on spiderland

is actually red by king crimson

similar kinf of guitar riffs and tones combined with off kilter rhythms at least a cpuple of songs have similar kind of quality to those heavier parts on spiderland imo
at least passingly. but obvi the vibe is completely different
