No GD thread? Let's fix that. The Allman Brothers, NRPS and other adjacent jam band artists welcome ITT too.

I have a mild fascination with the Carbondale 79 show (the Valium show) as I believe the setlist in Dead.net is a lie. Someone at the show said the Drums part was in the first set because Jerry was crashing out but the band still claims it was in the second set.
Here's what I believe happened: the recordings that exist of the show are of the first set. The recorders bailed after it sucked so hard. Jerry on a cocktail of every upper they had on them melting everybody's faces with the fastest Scarlet > Fire ever is lost because even the soundboard wasn't saved from that second set.

based gd historian. dont really care for post hiatus dead but that's an interesting story

jams i'm currently obsessing over:
-the other one 10/22/67; first ever version of TOO, raw and primitive, yet more sophisticated than any '68 versions i listened to
-alligator->caution 3/2/69; amazing 25 minutes jam after 7 minutes of drum solo. i need to listen to more versions tho
-lovelight-> goin down the road 4/26/7; one of the highlights of the european tour, best lovelight according to some deadheads

their early studio albums are very mediocre. american beauty and workingman's dead are the most accessible, blues for allah is my personal favorite
their best work is the live shows. the europe shows from 1972 or the cornell show from 77 are the usual entry points.

I miss them so much. The recent Brothers shows at MSG sounded killer:

Pigpen years were okay, everything after was just collecting those cia paychecks. How many bright people did these faggots ruin? Probably in the millions. S on JG

Eleven from live dead is one of my all time favorite songs especially when vocals finally come in. St Steven is also the ultimate hippie anthem

Harpur College is a great show, better than Cornell, but that breakdown at the end is amazing.
