the origins of vaporwave lay in hypnogogic pop like ariel pink and james ferrao and vaporwave proper starts with Daniel lopatin.

This isn't even his best work.

Tanning Salon - Dream Castle
Vektordrum - Geese I, Banished Re-cut
Vektordrum - Hello Skypedals EP1
Sacred Tapestry - Shader (I like Transmigration from this one)

He was better when he was doing Aphex-influenced ambient than memowave.

You're both wrong, a Liminal Space originally just refered to areas that were meant to be purely transient like a hallway or outdoor walkway, it's a place that was not intended by its designers for you to be in for very long, and so when taken out of this context, when you're forced to look at them, they illicit an uneasy feeling. That was the original intent anyways, it then eventually just kind of evolved into shit like pool rooms and other dream scapes because another angle was the whole nostalgia thing

A lot of that material is itself a rehash of the type of stuff released on the Bobby J label in the 90s. Listen to Low End Lars, Five Starcle Men, Cyrus Rego, or Charlie Mcalister and you're going to hear some similarities.

>>"transient space" (who the fuck talks likes this)
It's what they are, there is no better way to describe them anon, it's a place (hallway, supermarket floor space.etc) that is transient, meaning they're not places meant for people to remain in for long periods of time. That's what they are. Like you're not meant to just stop and stand in the middle of an empty hallway, because it's a transient space. That's literally what the initial appeal of these spaces were, jumpscares had nothing to do with these types of spaces until zoomers got a hold of them

>word salad
its "transient-ness" has nothing to do with what makes it feel eerie
which is why ANY empty space works
your transient definition falls flat every time something other than that also feels liminal which is constantly
its just an empty space that makes you feel like something might jump out and grab you
its the same exact cheap trick used in every single shitty horror movie ever
its literally a generic jumpscare scene
the exact formula
which assholes like you then see as the perfect opportunity to use the word "transient" in a conversation
