agreed, but ten and vitalogy are almost as good.
after vitalogy they stopped making grunge and Dave Abbruzzese left the band. his drumming was so iconic to their sound. you can really tell the difference between their 1990-1994 run and everything after that.

I don't hear this one as much. Byrne doesn't really do that added throat/mouth resonance thing an anon above describes. He has more of a yelping head voice thing, which I don't really associate with WIlliams.
I did some searching and there's even a word for the Vedder technique, "yarling". It's a constrained/nasal sound combined with chest voice and a bit of vocal fry, think of the Meatwad voice. Even Al Green kind of does this, but he could obviously sing.
