>make only one song that gets radio airtime
>become globally recognized
I genuinely have never heard any other songs from this band. Why are they so famous?

i don't really like smells like teen spirit, almost all of the other songs on this album are better. i saw someone once say that the reason that song became the big hit is because it is among the least nirvana-like of their songs and i think that might be true.

They played In Bloom like every 5th song on my local alternative rock station when I was a kid. Lithium got played pretty often too.

The only Nirvana tune I really like is "Territorial Pissings".

Come As You Are was also a big radio hit back in the day, and Lithium was, but to a lesser extent. All 3 got plenty of radio time.

bahahahahahahaha. people used to try to make these posts believable. next time maybe pick an album that hasnt had nearly EVERY SONG on it PLAYED TO DEATH by radio for the past 34 YEARS STRAIGHT lmaooo. seriously though either you dont have a single rock radio station around you or youre trolling, its one or the other. plenty of songs from In Utero get played too. the following STILL get regular play to this day: smells like teen spirit, in bloom, come as you are, lithium, drain you, on a plain, something in the way, sliver, heart-shaped box, dumb, pennyroyal tea, all apologies. jesus christ what has this board become.

Barely any rock bands had hit singles since the 80's. In the 90's new jack swing and r&b pop domiated the singles charts
The album sold 14 million copies tho

That album had like 4 extremely popular songs on it.

Smells Like Teen Spirit was huge. Come As You Are was almost just as big. Lithium was huge. I definitely remember hearing In Bloom all the time, too.

Absolutely. Drain You and Lounge Act are my go-tos at the moment.

I'm a big fan of Negative Creep and Even in His Youth.
Wish they'd play those two on my local alt radio station instead of Come As You Are, Heart-Shaped Box, and Smells Like Teen Spirit on repeat.

refreshing influences (pixies, wipers, stooges)
groundbreaking production
no filler (compared to Pixies)
impressive singing (mogs similar bands such as fugazi and pixies)
iconic personalities and looks
intense backstory ending in suicide
recognizable fashion choices and guitars

punk had to take over after years of buttrock/hair metal, but the bands before Nirvana didn't meet the requirements for a mainstream breakthrough
