>>126763121This is true and people are extra angry and hateful about shit that preteen and teen girls like, but MCR hate wasn't really about that. It was just the forefront of the popification, commercialization, and bastardization of alternative shit, the same shit kids were getting beat up or teased for was now cool and popular pretty suddenly and it was completely normal to see the cool kids in school imitating the styles and aesthetics and then mixing them with hello kitty shit. It was "alternative" and "punk" that you could literally buy at the mall in an afternoon, no more ethos attached. Stuff like MCR, Paramore, and Avril Lavigne were just a particularly blatant example of a gentrified movement, complete with grifters in every direction. They brought "punk" to kids. MCR pissed people off especially because they had some dude fans that tried to legitimize them while detractors insisted they were no different from the girly kiddie stuff like Avril or Paramore.
Everything is like this now, where we have reduced lifestyles and youth movements to surface level aesthetics that you can put on like a costume, no context required, so this all probably seems like a non-issue.
Hard to find an equivalent now since I don't think rejects or dorks in school get together and kind of create their own thing in the first place.
