I'm not into electronic music at all, I've only really listened to Daft Punk. I decided to give this album a try, and I do not get it at all. What's the appeal? It's minimalistic to the point of being boring, and terribly long to boot. I struggled to get through all 70 minutes. Did I get filtered?

No most electronic music is pretty boring honestly and better suited to background music than something you'd actively listen to, especially if you aren't into sound design. Once I quit smoking weed I couldn't even listen to it while driving anymore. It just loops over and over again with little variation, which is cool when you're high I guess, but there isn't enough there to warrant actively listening to it.

Aphex Twin's style evolved a lot release by release in the 90's. SAW85-92 is the most ''generic'' and easily accessible he ever sounded, I find your appraisal fair overall, but keep in mind he was only getting started with this album, a lot of his reputation was built from later releases.

I've listened Drukqs and almost his whole discography for that matter, Drukqs is better in that regard but still most of the variation is only in the drums while the pads and synths and overall vibe is generally unchanging. I don't particularly dislike it, just find it kind of boring now that I'm older and heard all electronic music has to offer. These days prefer listening to denser music with more interesting form, structure, cadence, lyrics, etc. mostly progressive rock and classical. Stuff that rewards you for repeat listening.

Yes, you got filtered. The first track may qualify as the greatest single of the '90s, it is nothing short of amazing. The second track might even be better. It's a very front-loaded record, but overall still great. If you have no experience with techno or ambient music then you're likely not to understand it.
