I thought I liked rock music. Rock seemed straightforward enough. Rock is the sound that makes you want to jump around and bodyslam people. But then /mu/ told me that if you don't like AC/DC you don't like rock. I believe it. I've heard musicians I respect say the same.
AC/DC puts me to sleep. I feel barely any "rock" from them. Even Janet Jackson "rocks" harder than AC/DC. And then I heard another "soft" song that "rocks" (not all the way through but the parts that don't "rock" accentuate the parts that do):
Kate Bush - Don't Push Your Foot on the Heartbrake

Compared to AC/DC this is pretty much Slayer. There has to be some mistake. I have somehow misunderstood "rock" and true rock is not that moshing/headbanging feeling at all. What I like is probably "thrash" and I like music that "thrashes". Drum 'n' bass (90s/00s DnB, not atmospheric zoomercore) thrashes. Thrash metal obviously thrashes. Death metal thrashes some of the time. Black metal hardly ever thrashes, and I assume it doesn't rock either. So what's the difference? Please explain.
