When you think about it, the Blue Album is an expression of what young white men go through and think in the modern world. It struck a nerve and could have sparked a kind of underlying cultural awareness — similar, in a way, to what the incel movement became years later. Leftist music journalists picked up on that subconsciously, even if they didn’t consciously understood it, and that’s why they trashed the second album. And it worked — after that, Weezer just made bad radio music.
