Poptards. What age were you when you realised you liked pop music all along and decided to just go all in on it?

>t. used to secretly listen to pic rel, Kylie and Carly in my bedroom at age 12 and my rap & metalhead friends never knew

Secretly enjoyed Taylor Swift (a handful of songs anyway) back in high school when Fearless and Speak Now were out, and not-so-secretly enjoyed Lights, seeing as my friend circle did too.

But now in my 30s I really couldn't give a shit and openly enjoy Dua Lipa, Carly, Taylor, and Lights in particular. I enjoy the odd song from a handful of other pop artists but not a whole lot outside those 4. This started about 6 or so years ago listening to a couple tracks from CRJ's Emotion, then it grew into liking the whole album, someone recommended me 1989 and it kinda really blew up from there.

>t. otherwise metalhead/hardcore punk/etc fan for the most part. But I like a lot of things.

Emotion is amazing. Dedication and Side B are gold standard pop. She never reinvents the wheel but goddamn she writes catchy songs, some of them are also inexplicably beautiful too.

I’m actually bisexual but I’m predominantly into women. I also have some repressed gender dysphoria I’ve had since early adolescence which I’m not sure what to do about. Even my girlfriends have sensed something “slightly different” in me.

Carly has one of the most consistent discographies in modern pop in my opinion. Can only think of like 3-4 tracks since Kiss that I don't really care for. Not that they outright suck, just that they're a little less catchy than the rest lol. I'm hoping for a new album announcement soon since I see she's been posting stuff from the studio on her instagram stories. But I imagine she's busy with wedding related stuff too.

It comes and goes for me.
I really love recession Pop to this day because of the weird spectacle as well as Europop & Eurodance for the same reason.
Sia is nice.
But I need it to be intense, raw and bizzare.

Definitely keen for a new album. I need all the nu-Carly I can get. Her husband?/producer makes quality stuff with her. I think it’s the same guy that produced a lot of Christine and the quees stuff, or the ‘Chris’ album anyway. That was a phenomenal album. It’s a particular style. It’s sexy but not vulgar or too slutty. Nice and subtle while still being loud and fun

A recording of babies being skinned alive and fucked would be more enjoyable than listening to Boom Boom Pow or I Gotta Feeling.

You're 100% gay/tranny and you open your every comment in music discussions with "as I metal fan..." then "I listen to [sluthoe9475850]'s music," as if claiming to be a metalhead added gravitas to your shitty takes on music and shielded you from any criticism. Why are metalfags like this? Do you think it's cute? Do you fucks think it will rid you of any judgement if you assert yourselves as metalfags before you praise corporate pop slop ad nauseam? Fucking posers, I tell ya.

I was fortunate to realize at a fairly early age that music is made by those who hear it, and not necessarily by the performer. I had a very old (and accomplished) piano teacher who taught me that, and that knowledge is one of the greatest gifts I've ever received.

So when people would make fun of music I liked, I started to see it for what it was: they were insecure about their limited musical understanding, so were wrapping themselves in snark "hurr durr that's cheesy and you have bad taste" instead of just opening their ears & minds. Their loss, and it left me feeling kind of smug.

So yeah I've always liked pop music, and avant-garde skronky shit, and have been thankful to always have good headphones, because trying to justify my tastes to insecure people is an exhausting waste of time.

This was a turning point for me. Always fake hated it before but I've realized I'm here for a good time not a long time and there's no sense hiding what I like. Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga are favorites. Teenage Dream is still a killer album. Not the biggest Taylor fan but I like a bunch of her songs and she's more talented than people give her credit for. Never got into Carly Rae Jepson though. 80s Madonna is great too.
Any recs? Haven't had something blow my mind in a while

am metalhead and i honestly despised this stuff especially being subjected to it over and over at my wagie job. i still don't like it. i think i just don't like the more dancey, party sounding stuff because i did get into some of what i consider more mature or sensual pop. my friend introduced me to some of picrel.

I purposely listened to pop because I hung out with metalfags and rockfags and for a while it really was good. Lady Gaga fucking sucks so much shit now it's unreal and is hanging on and being way more annoying than any dad rock band could ever be. Tyler the Faggot, MGayMT, mufaggycore, all of this shit that stuck around is how you know it fucking sucks.

easy to listen to, and designed to be universally pleasant
(catering to the lower faculties, that is)
upbeat repetitive artificial electronic noises, often pronounced bass
usually short songs with simple structures and catchy elements
sometimes accompanied by pleasant visuals
difficult not to like, that's the point
like junk food, except that abusing this will make you fat
and prolonged exposure to those will make you gay and/or retarded
just look at /mu/

I was probably like 10 or so, give or take a couple years, in ‘04 when I was listening to can’t get you outta my head by Minogue and Eiffel 65’s move your body and other stuff that wasn’t just blue.
It hit my soul just right at the right time and I still appreciate poppy techno to this day.
I’m so bummed I missed out on being an adult in the 90’s and 00’s but it is what it is.
