I like him in the interviews from 91 when every journo is trying to get deep meaningful answers from kurt and krist just refuses to be serious and irl shitposts the whole time, you get a sense he's doing to be a good fren and bail out his overly sensitive pal.
also he had cool stage presence just for size and how low his bass is slung alone

As cringe as Limp Bizkit are, none of their members was replaceable and they all added a ton to the sound of the band. Their bassist and drummer are fucking beasts and really fucking skilled and Wes made his minimalistic noodling paired with heavy riffs fill out the spots that their stellar rhythm section left out. Even their douchebag singer rounded things up nicely with the timbre of his voice and melodies. Nobody else but each member of the band could have made Limp Bizkit what it is.

Was he given the chance? My impression is that Dave wanted his own project that he'd have 100% control over. And that wouldn't have worked with Krist. He couldn't have bossed him around or done only what he wanted like he did with his "band mates".
Also I'd imagine Krist wouldn't want Dave's band to sort of look like an attempt to continue Nirvana without Cobain. So I suppose he decided to stay out for many reasons

Made sense as they had already worked on the proto-Foo Fighters tracks written by Dave for Nirvana while waiting for Kurt to show up to record the intended 4th album

No I'm saying I was listing bassists that are crucial and forgot he specified bassists that don't sing.

Lounge Act
Sappy
Heart Shaped Box
In Bloom
Hairspray Queen
All really good bass playing on these songs works perfectly with Kurt's guitar playing. Not to mention that he always had fabulous bass tones that elevated the sonic quality of the band. What makes a good bass player to OP? Billy Sheehan? Cringe. Sometimes playing along with the guitar riff is the best option, Come As You Are, Smells Like Teen Spirit, why would those songs benefit from some kind of counter part bass line? They wouldn't.

Is it coat tail riding if you contribute to the image of the band?
We all know bands are solely judged just on their music.
Kurt would have never have stood in front of a crowd without Krist

I refuse to believe there are people who like the Poo Fighters or Gorillaz. There is a heavy metal band who has the same effect (people not understanding how people can like it) but that band has had some great songs and, like Saxon, they were hit-or-miss.

Rex? no way he was in pantera for 10 years before they hit it big. Him and the abbotts worked their asses off and he definitely paid his dues when it comes to Pantera. Down though? Yeah, kind of.

Lars doesn't write music. The same way DJ Khaled isn't a producer OR a DJ. Lars is...just there, because he played his cards right and worked his way up to being Metallica's manager and practically owning all their shit. That's why he gets to pull the strings. So yes, lars is a coattail rider by all means, and a fucking burden as well.
