Black Sabbath in 1970 could never have made Symptom of the Universe

This

3-5 are the best bit of Sabbath. Paranoid is overrated imo

No, they kept evolving every single album until Technical Ecstasy where they just reused ideas from Sabotage but made it less heavy, then Never Say Die is just a generic hard rock album. After that they became a metal band with Dio/Tony Martin/Ian Gillan, where they make very good songs but also a lot of shit

Every Sabbath album is the best metal album for its time. They set the standard for quality and musicianship in metal.

fuck no, Master of Reality is damn near close to a masterpiece with Vol 4 coming close to that, the rest is generally subpar.

Master of Reality was the heaviest album in existence for 12 years until it was finally surpassed by Kill 'Em All. Far ahead of its time.

yup. all the heaviest bands of the 80's were looking back on Sabbath as their main goal to top in heaviness.
