yeah, start off with Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz, which is still pretty tame compared to what Coltrane and others were doing a bit later.
>>126810090 (OP)
Pharoah Sanders albums seem to be popular among people dabbling in free jazz. Try Karma or Deaf Dumb and Blind. Or really anything he put out in the 60s through the mid 70s
>>126810090 (OP)
I'm not sure why you'd want more accessible free jazz. Either way, picrel isn't strictly free jazz, though it dabbles, and can more or less be appreciated by someone who wants to have his cake and eat it for some reason.
>>126810090 (OP)
the elitism surrounding jazz is so pretentious and retarded there is nothing uniquely inaccessible about jazz it's just most people don't enjoy music which pivots and twists constantly
>>126811516
There are literally dozens of completely accesible Coltrane albums. Listen to Ellington & Coltrane. There is nothing //uniquely// inaccesible about jazz
>>126811660
this retard >>126810840 changed the goalposts from free jazz to jazz because he was too desperate not to show off his big brain smart aleckness like some hormonal teenager
and show me a non-jazz album that sounds like live in japan or you lose the argument.
>>126811886
harmonically and structurally nothing like trane
I'm assuming you don't listen to much jazz and just think of free jazz as random noises, which is fine
there is a good amount of jazz artist that make free improv which is similar to what you posted, but that is very distinct from free jazz
>>126811998
I see that now. I just finished listening to the first song on the album however, and it sounds nothing like any Trane I've ever heard, conventional or free-form, let alone jazz in general, so I can safely discard you as a massive poser retard. Cope.

you see the thing is that screech hONK BAMM KABOOM squeeeeeeek HOOOOOOOONK CRASH HONK HONKKKKK AWOOOOOGA SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECHYSCHREECH hONK HONK
>>126812003 >>126812065 >show me a non jazz album that conforms to my expectations of jazz
This nigger is shipping the goalposts all over the damn map. How could there be a non jazz album that sounds exactly like Live in Japan?
>>126810090 (OP)
free jazz is probably the most accessible form of jazz. psueds/rockists/poptimists especially love to flock to it cause they can't into normal jazz. same with fusion.
>>126813764 >free jazz is probably the most accessible form of jazz
Huh… I’ve had more luck getting into hard bop and post-bop more than anything else. Fusion era miles is cool though too.
>>126813764
This. Standard jazz tonality and rhythms need focus, whereas anyone can just ride the stream-of-consciousness waves of any free collective improv, jazz or otherwise.
>>126813764 >free jazz is probably the most accessible form of jazz
If you ignore cool jazz maybe. Chet Baker, Bill Evans, Charlie Brown, the list goes on
>>126813807
It's also adored by non-tourists but you'd have to actually A) exit your safe space tranny echo chamber to notice this, or B) actually listen to the album yourself and form your own opinion, not that you'll ever do either.
Geez, how did it get retarded so quick?
Anyway, OP, if you're still interested, check out Chick Corea's "Is". I'd say it's somewhat accesible and from there on you can start getting into other free jazz albums. Personally, I'd suggest starting in reverse order; the title track is easily the hardest to get into. Let me know if you like it.
>>126813979
This album totally rips, especially “The Brain.” Amazing interaction between bass and drums propelling the soloists … not sure if Chick would have called it “free”
>>126813764
Retard take. Free jazz is intensely unpopular but the record albums are rare so record stores and collectors always flip them. The only people who like free jazz are other free jazz and noise musicians.
>>126814286
I don't agree with that guy that it's the most accessible form of jazz, which obviously doesn't make sense. It is though arguably the most accessible form of difficult music, and the genre title makes it very alluring even for a total outsider. And even when it's pretty impenetrable, it can be dealt with by a somewhat generous listener, unlike other genres. Free improv is another issue altogether.
