If the Beatles had never released anything like Rubber Soul or Revolver, and had remained a "boy band" until the end of the decade, would they have been appreciated in this way, or would they have been forgotten as another pop act?

They are widely regarded as the most influential band in Western popular music and were integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and the recognition of popular music as an art form.

I honestly don't think they ever counted as a boy band. They wrote their own songs and played their own instruments. They started out in seedy clubs in the red light district of Hamburg, not on Nickelodeon.

They were wild in Hamburg as you would be at like 17-20 yo let loose on the continent, lodging in the back rooms of porno theaters and staying up for days on end fueled by prescription amphetamines, fighting with German sailors etc

They would have been easily surpassed by the beach boys (if we pretend the beach boys also stuck in their 'boy band' era). They just had more vocal talent.

The Beatles were never a boy band. Boy Bands weren't a thing yet. The Beatles started off as a Skiffle Band. The closest they came to being a "boyband" was their Merseybeat era but Merseybeat takes too much from blues and rock and roll to really be considered boyband material. But if we really want to lower our standards for "boyband" to that level then we'd pretty much have to consider every single rock band in the early 60s a boyband

They created boy bands, they were admittedly copying the girl groups of their time and focusing on catchy jingles meant to go number 1 and sell a lot of records.

It would be amazing if any of the boy bands from the 90s-onward entered their experimental phase and made some weird shit
