geek USA into Mayonaise is the peak of alternative music. I don't understand why he abandoned that sound.

i root so hard for Billie but the new releases never work out, he was such a musical genius in the 90s that its hard to fathom he doesn't have a comeback album in him, love him to death but he really must've gone up his ass, he should've pivoted to some kind of King Crimson Red inspired version of what he does

Yup. That’s something SP fans have always struggled to explain… if the guys such a genius where are the fucking 21st century tracks…

I personally hate Radiohead but they casually shit out stuff better than what Billy can manage

https://youtu.be/yI2oS2hoL0k

Same thing goes for Beck who I like…

Every single SP album was like a completely different band. If it wasn't for BC's instantly recognizable voice then you'd never have been able to tell it was the same group.

coming from someone who listened to Gish pretty much daily, Siamese Dream was the perfect follow up and I listened to that motherfucker almost daily. collected all the singles to get the awesome b-sides (most ended up on Pisces Iscariot but I had 'em already) and was super stoked for Mellon Collie. man, what a let down. ditching Vig for Flood? fucking why? Corgan turning his whiny-ness up even further than it already was. half the shit was filler.
I dropped my favorite band.

Both Beck and Radiohead haven't made a good album in a decade and they both peaked a quarter of a century ago.

Yeah and it wasn't even that good compared to their best work. Just like Billie, they lost the magic a long time ago. That's just how it goes when artists become rich and surrounded by yes-men.

Here's the actual answer:
People shit on D'arcy but she had one specific thing that made great SP albums. She was the only person with enough balls to tell Billy "no", and got him to reign in or adjust his ideas
There's a reason why the last peak album was when she was there fully, and the last semi-ok album was the album she was half there for. Once she left no one else, band members or producers or execs, had the balls to tell him no.

I've never heard this but it fits with the album history at least. interesting take.
she was vehemently against joining the reunion despite being invited. it sounded like sour grapes at the time but maybe this explains it
