There was an overload of good popular music during the boomer years (60s through 80s), to the point where from then on it became too easy to just mix and match recycled bits and pieces from the past and call your patchwork plagiarism original art. There’s too much room for retro/throwback/nostalgia/revival bullshit. People should be rejecting it, but instead they usually just “vibe” to it because they’re conditioned to be passive.

Probably because of rap being pushed so hard on them from day one.
Until rap came about all of popular music was reliant on a strong melody, usually a strong vocal melody. Zoomers are the first generation of people in history to grow up with a huge chunk of pop music being vocally atonal. That means they don't see strong vocal melodies as important anymore.
