When one listens to his music, one catches a glimpse into the universal. What's especially remarkable is the range of ways that vision is expressed: sometimes tragic, serious, lively, joyous, meditative, pastoral, intricate. It doesn't even sound like Baroque music, but like something timeless, from a place outside history.

That's how Mozart himself felt about him.. and he was a just generation later. Bach never really left his home region and just cranked out stuff away from any big music circles. Later Germans realized the extent of his genius. Mozart visited his church where he played a lot and found old sheet music of Bach's. He treated it like sacred texts.
