That's the thing. He wasn't a rock musician in their minds. The folkies were partly a political movement who thought he was their golden child or something to usher some new age. They didn't want him to be a rock musician. It was slop to the folk movement. But he looked up to Elvis and Buddy Holly as much as Woody Guthrie.
