Alex Van Halen was always assigned the task of picking album covers, this one and the ones that followed it were terrible.

Early computer art aged very poorly in general, even if it often has "sovl". Had this cover been painted (like 1984) it would have fared better.

It looks very much like a band member dictated the concept. "Yeah man...we're like going in two directions but like we're attached at the hip and shit lol". This is why you leave covers to the likes of Hipgnosis.
