Probably because of how extremely over-hyped it is, despite being a really basic "prog" death metal album and not doing anything interesting whatsoever. Basically babby's first prog death album. Listen to Where Owls Know My Name instead.

the OSDM parts and softer prog rock parts don't mix well at all and sound incredibly jarring and pointless together. there's a million progdeath/melodeath bands that blend the two extremes much better

I think this album is okay. I don't hate it. I just in general don't care much for the majority of prog death metal. To me a lot of it style over substance. But this album isn't as egregious in that regard. As I said, it's okay.

What's sad is I don't think he genuinely believes this. He probably knows deep down he's a hack fraud who lucked out with Hidden History, and so he holds this arrogant posture with the hopes that it will distract from his music being milquetoast and backward-looking.
