I used to be a militant atheist when I was younger and subscribed to Richard Carrier's viewpoint, but I now realize Jesus must've existed because he clearly aroused emotions among 1st century Jews, and they were very negative emotions. If Jesus had been cooked up by Christians, it would be easier for the 1st century Jews to already then accuse him of being fictional instead of acknowledging he existed and made ruckus and was an all-around "bad fella"
