You don't need 2k worth of pedals, and you will never use 90% of the effects in the helix. Figure out which pedals you need for your core tone and stop there. Creativity flourishes under limitations.

I have been lamenting, lamenting that I didn't pick up a guitar 10 years ago when I was in middle school.
I'm 24 and recently discovered how much I want to make music after really becoming inspired but I feel like by the time I'm good enough to make my own music that's decent I'll be too old to even consider breaking into the industry.
Yeah, I know, big dreams and I should just focus on becoming a better guitar player but there's been this thought lingering in the back of my mind since I picked up a guitar since I know I want to create music.
I don't want to be Hendrix or Van Halen, just be able to make songs people enjoy - all my favorite music doesn't have an insanely high skill ceiling to play anyway.

>18 months
This is the goal I've set to be able to start putting some music out there. I feel like I'm wasting time trying to figure out the best way to proceed for my goals though.
FWIW Bowie is who inspired me to pick up a guitar, particularly Mick Ronson but I realized it really was Bowies insanely passionate vocals that made me love his music. Technically his music isn't that complicated and a lot of it was created by session players.

A lot of artists today at least with pop lie about their age.
Ultimately if you're making more mature music I don't think it should matter much, your 20s are still very young be glad you decided to pick up a guitar at 24 and give it a try instead of living a life of regret

Well, I was at Burger King earlier. After driving 3 triple whoopers into me I went and started dropping coins into the spinning orange plastic fish tank thing when I had a random thought to go to gc (guitar center). Hot chick walking out as I head in. She gave me a look. Guy at the counter is this TOTAL hunk and I'm not even kidding. Go into the acoustic room for some peace and feel my insides lurch. Before I could even react, liquid sin sprayed into an ovation 12 string on a stand behind me. It was awful. I got out as quick as I could and multiple people noticed. I'm a regular customer and I know most of them recognize me. Oh well. It's only rock and roll.

that right there is a 22k 2 watt resistor strapped across a banana plug. it plugs into my multimeter and then my alligator clip leads plug into it. i clip the negative lead to the chassis and then touch the positive lead to each of the filter caps, which discharges them.

however when you're dealing with the bias the amp has to be on so you just gotta make sure you don't touch the bottoms of the filter caps, which isn't really that hard to do.

As a newbie am I suppose to learn the whole song? Like of course I am suppose to eventually, but right now something like seven nation army solo is damn near impossible and so on. Also Wonderwall is supposed to be easy but looking at the tab on Songster the thing is crazy fast for me.

The thing that is bothering me is whether I'm suppose to grind those songs. I don't want to waste a lot of time on something thats way above my level

when i first started i just wanted to play the parts that sounded the best, to me.

Now I learn the whole song because I'm interested in the song writing part as well as the songs structure.

There's a lot more to a song than just the cool riffs.

For example you can have 1 guitar play in the left channel and then a second guitar play in the right channel both using chords that compliment each other.

There's also rhythm or lead guitar, each having their own parts. Depends how they write the song.

one thing i struggled with was finding the beat or rhythm of the song.

for example where's the strumming pattern or the clap in the song.

break it down into manageable parts if you want to play note for note or just take acid and write your own obscure cover kek

Only if you want to. Later on you should definitely learn entire songs and solos to learn phrasing and song structure like the other anon said, but at the beginning learning the fundamentals like chords, strumming patterns and scales is all you need. If you decide not to learn songs from front to back keep in mind that playing endurance is a skill that needs to be learned and structure your practice appropriately. Just because you have learned to play a rhythm figure flawlessly doesn't mean you can pull it off for the duration of an entire song no matter how simple it might be.

Sounds like you need an oscilloscope. Without going into all the troubleshooting I did, I removed corrosion from the opamp and surrounding components, noticed one leg of the opamp had lifted from its pad, so I removed it completely, cleaned the pads, and reinstalled. The potentiometer was out of spec and also super stiff. I didnt bother cleaning it and just threw in a new 25ka pot. The voltage regulator (7805 in this case) had seen a lot of heat (im guessing due to it being an old EH pedal and people never using the correct power supplies) so I replaced it as well. I normally hate working on smd boards but this one was fairly painless and took maybe half an hour to get back up and running. Now I need to throw together an effects loop board for it to live on. Picrel is post QD cleaner and scrubbing with toothbrush. I wish I had taken a before, it was rough.

It just happens naturally. All of these different techniques people try to teach boils down to "i started doing it like this because its comfortable and efficient FOR ME". Dont take it as gospel just get a general idea then figure out what works for you. Swinging a hammer looks the same to people that have never used one, but experienced carpenters dont think about the mechanics of each and every swing, they just operate by feel.

I figured maybe I was just coping but this Player 1 Strat really does feel better than any modern US made Strat Iโ€™ve picked up in recent memory. Iโ€™ve been playing for 20 plus years and have played a lot of Strats. Iโ€™ve also been going to guitar centers and music stores a lot lately and testing a bunch of stuff off the walls to test my potential cope. It could just be that US Strats are set up poorly before leaving the factory, Iโ€™m sure with a bit of work they could feel better than my Player 1, but I donโ€™t know man, this thing just feels so perfect. Iโ€™ve had my eye on the AVII Jazzmaster in Sherwood green, found one last night at GC and it felt like garbage. I really donโ€™t think itโ€™s cope to say that at this point, Mexican and US Fender arenโ€™t all that different when it comes to build quality and QC. Are the components nicer? In some cases. The consistency of build quality is pretty fascinating, I have an early 00s Mexi Strat and itโ€™s not nearly as nice as this Player 1. It used to play better but has gotten worse with age. I guess my point is finding a good guitar is a crapshoot and most of the prevailing wisdom is iffy at best. My last five or so guitars were bought on reverb and all of them have exceeded my expectations, which tells me I need to stop while Iโ€™m ahead and play before buying going forward. Really, I have all my bases covered and shouldnโ€™t buy anything else unless I get rid of something, Iโ€™m running out of space and my stress level of hiding them all before going out of town keeps getting worse as my collection grows. I can almost justify a fireproof safe.

I do know SRV's tech put dummy coils in his shit
I remember a thread on Strat talk about it, some guys say it negatively effects tone, kills high end or something
so does copper shielding
the real kick is: turn down the fucking gain and adjust the angle you're facing

Good hearing protection is cheap nowadays, $40 for a decent headset with built in microphone/speakers. Being able to hear your steel hits at 100+ yards is invaluable. Shooting steel is underrated, my accuracy has increased significantly since I started using audible targets, especially for shooting while moving and under stress.

What kind of motorcycle? I trail ride and recently upgraded from an older KDX to a newer KTM XCW 200 and itโ€™s definitely louder. I canโ€™t do earplugs though because I need to be able to hear any potential traffic coming either way. The trails are usually single track, tight and with a lot of foliage and overgrowth that makes visibility past 10 yards nonexistent.

Something's wrong with the vertical tracking in my Goldstar, but I have a handheld scope that's good enough for audio. Guitars and amps are more fun. Pedal hype has really cooled off for me.

At least I'm not Keeley cashing in frequent flyer miles to stay in business. I guess 300 per pedal still isn't enough.

A lot of them are memes. I was intrigued by the JHS Packrat, tried it out at GC last night and it was very, very underwhelming. 9 Rat models in one box and they all sound like shit. Iโ€™m pretty much set with the BBE Screamer as my clean tone and the DS2 and Muff w/ tone wicker as my various flavors of distortion and fuzz. I want to want more but I just donโ€™t need it.

Iโ€™ve considered setting my YZ250 up as a supermoto since it has turn signals and everything needed for street but the roads are too shitty up by my rural cottage where I keep my bikes.
