Did your opinion on metallica change after watching Some Kind Of Monster?

I've never seen it because it isn't on streaming. I refuse to download it illegally.

no, I knew they sucked before I watched it. it just confirmed my suspicions of dysfunction and identity crisis within the band

Reminder that as much time has passed between now and Some Kind of Monster than Some Kind of Monstwr and Kill Em All.

If anything I gained respect for them. Yes, they look like massive buffoons, but more so in a dysfunctional than a self-absorbed way. It's very anti-rockstar to put this out to the world. Surely most bands would've taken the financial loss and scrapped it once they saw what it was going to turn out like. It's an unironic Spinal Tap, and there are some absolute gems of bits that I keep having pop in my head.

Something about this clip is just perfect, it's hard to believe they're not parodying themselves here. Truly fascinating.

eh, we all know time means less as an adult than a young guy
The last 20 years to them must have been no different than the first 5 as a band

It made me sympathise with them a little. It's a great portrait of an older established band worrying about changing trends, and figuring out how to reinvent themselves to avoid getting left behind. The irony is that despite St Anger's failure they ended up outlasting everybody from the nu-metal scene in terms of relevance.

If only Nickelback was lacking enough in media awareness to release anything as revealing as Some Kind of Monster.
