It's amazing. Super user friendly instrument, almost anyone can pick it up and have accompaniment for a song. The boom of untalented girls playing cutesy versions of songs the past couple of decades unfairly gave it a bad reputation. I write and play songs with a tenor ukulele, and it's basically a guitar with a capo and slightly less sustain. Wrote all my saddest sings on a ukulele.
I have a Hawaiian made Koa wood Ukulele and it sounds beautiful but I've never really played anything but chords on it but I guess that's all you're really meant to play on them anyways

I'm thinking of getting one for the sole purpose of playing a couple HWJr. songs and Silver Eagle by George Jones.

I grew up in Hawaii and when I was in elementary school you had the choice to do either band or orchestra or ukulele, so I chose ukulele I only really play guitar these days but the uke has a specific place and they sound great when done right some people don't even realize what a good quality uke is supposed to sound like since the first time they see one is those shitty toy kid ones they sell at guitar center or something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEh_gmdtOSc
>>126924839 (OP) Ukuleles are punk as fuck! I'm bringing mine to the open mic this weekend and play some Clash, Ramones, and Misfits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNuqN4qry9g&list=RDdNuqN4qry9g&start_radio=1

>>126926039 so did I. I remember there was an island wide music talent contest put out by a radio station and all sorts of high school bands entered and they would play the shows on the radio.there was some band from Waianae or some place like that where one of the guys played electric ukulele and they played a cover of Foghat's Slow Ride. kek

>>126924839 (OP) the Baritone Ukulele has a more guitar-like tone and doesnt have the weird sounding G string lowered an octave but has normal all fourths tuning like a guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UNYVmV_DyQ
>>126927627 That's the exact same standard tuning for a tenor guitar. (Sometimes this is known as "Chicago tuning". When you tune the four strings to E, A, D, and G, that is known, for some reason as "Arkansas tuning")
